Maybe it was at the crank, but just adding two bigger turbos easily adds 100+ horsepower to the already 420 something stock twin turbo, but I will ask to make sure. As for the race with the F-50, it was the Ruf that was beating it...trust me this thing is unbelievably fast!

530BHP @ THE REARS!!! hmmmmm... .

This is quite some RUF. The R-Turbo (I read in Evo mag) is supposed to produce 530bhp at the crank. Is this some "super" R-Turbo.......

Misunderstood - did the F50 start beating it from xxx mph....or the other way 'round.

From the sounds of it, he was out of control and they were right to ask him to leave

Both these Ruf's were at Motorsports Ranch on Saturday, for the Porsche Club DE track weekend. Only the one with the labels went out on track, driven by its owner, Kyle Bass, a really nice guy. Unfortunately, he was then asked to leave the track after (a) passing the Lead Instructor on the apex of Little Bend turn (a DEFINITE, and announced, NO PASSING zone!), followed by (b) running really wide on Turn 1, into the weeds, and then immediately driving back on track w/o the permission of the corner workers...right in front of traffic, and then (c) speeding in the pit and parking areas with children, pets, etc. all around after being black flagged. Oh, well, it sure was a fast car anyway...

I was very lucky on Friday after work to be able to take a ride(passenger) in the Gumball Ruf! The owner was extremely generous and trustworthy, since the person had not met me before. The car still had all the decals on so that was really cool. The interior was plush; with an Alpine Nav system that would pop up when the car was turned on, an integrated radar detector, and a ton of aluminum trim. The owner took me directly across the street from the dealership on this nice stretch of road...we crossed over the median and horsepower and torque took over! The engine has a deeper moan to it than a regular 911 and the handling was rock solid! Steering response, braking, and lane changes were done with absolute precision. We were going fast very fast, (the fastest I have ever been in a car-let's keep it at that) We came onto Park and we whipped it around and headed the opposite direction and blew by a Roush mustang, which made it look like it was standing still. Plano PKWY came up and we turned left flooring it at every possible chance! Turned around once again and reaching good amount of speed when a UPS truck pulls out and CRASH!!!...nooo J/K the owner was a really good driver whipped the RUF around the UPS truck and pulled into the dealership again. I cannot tell you enough how nice the owner was-just a great guy! I got out of the car and starting sweating from all the adrenaline for a good ten minutes! That ride was one of the best rides I had ever had in a car! (next to the Ferraris of course :-))

For those who are wondering, he bought the car from the Porsche dealership and then sent it to Louis Ruf to have the modifications done. The owner did confirm the F50 race but had beat it at a higher rate (from *** and over) of speed, add 40 to the original number to those who know.

Thanks to the owner for the ride of my life!

oh by the way HP's were at 530 to the wheels, that might put it into perspective!

That's funny Nunja. The figures for the 1/4th mile you gave for the F50 make it slower than a 1997 - current Viper GTS or RT/10 in the 1/4th mile, and the MPH is not far off. Lol! But hey, at least the ride is more uncomfortable!

We are a crazy bunch, us Ferrari Enthusiasts!

I forgot to mention that I saw a post from the owner of a Corvette Z06 on another forum describing how fast these Rufs are. He said he raced one of the first 996 Ruf turbos in the states. He said it was ridiculously fast and put buslengths on his Z06. Anything that can do that is incredibly quick.

Manu,

Its got to be quicker than an F50. The F50's best 1/4 mile is something like 12.1@124 MPH. Many of Ruf's cars do the 1/4 mile in the low 11's@125+ MPH. That is pretty big lead through the 1/4 mile. I'm surprised the Ruf didn't beat the F50 by a bigger margin.

I've heard a lot about this car. I look forward to your driving impressions, though I can't believe that its quicker than an F50!

Got this story from a friend of mine...

Well,

I was getting my car teched for this weekend at the
Porsche Store. You meet all kinds of interesting
folks there.

In the service area there are two Ruf 911 RTurbo's.
Not one. Two. One was the car from the Gumball
rally. The other was a buddy and fellow Gumballer who
did not get his RTurbo in time so had to codrive a 550
Maranello (This guy was younger than me) The other
RTurbo guy is from the Bass family (I'm told, I did
not ask his name). Nice guy. Crazy too. Great
stories. Have to share em with you guys.

Showed me a picture of his speedo taken in West Texas.
206 mph. On a public road. Said it hit 208 and
there was a 20 mph head wind! Claimed to average 160
mph across Texas. I have no reason to doubt him.

In Nevada he raced an F50 and beat it from 100 up.
Two helicopters tried filming this but failed to keep
up with the two cars when they passed 180.

He was pursued 4 times by police and just kept going.
They could not catch him. Several other Gumballers
did the same. He was stopped once (roadblock) and
apparently his lawyer took care of it on the spot.

He said the F50 driver would throw wads of $1 bills
out of the car when the police where chasing them
(they could not catch him or get close), local cars
would stop and get out to pick up the cash making an
effective road block for pursuing police. The F50
driver did this three times.

Said the "spirit" award went to some Europeans who
brought a $1.2M Ferrari 250GT California (real one)
which broke down in New York. They then purchased a
Shelby Cobra (real one) for $550000 in Texas, it broke
down in Nevada, where they bought a Ferrari 348 to
finish the rally.

His RTurbo had severe pitting on the front facia and
windshield. The three radiators up front all suffered
a bit too. The RTurbo is really cool, it even has a
cleverly hidden rollcage built into it. Neato.
