I can't answer the question about the two different estimates. It is possible that one dealer quoted you just an oil change while the other quoted the entire job. An oil change should cost $350 or less but most dealers will likely try to charge more. OTOH, the two dealerships might be managed by different people while owned mostly by silent partners. This is very common in high-end car dealerships.

As to your second question, I would say that 99% of the dealers, do not perform inspections. This is why I put the list of work in writing and tell them that I expect the work to be done. In my case and this time around, I have reason to believe that inspections were made.

That look a lot like my list for the 5K.

I just had my annual service (5K or 1 year, whichever comes first) done last month. It is quite a bit more than just oil change and lubrication. This is what the book says:

· Engine Oil & Filter: Replace
· Gearbox Fluid: Replace
· Brake Fluid: Replace and bleed as required
· Fresh Air Intake Filter: Replace
· Drive Belts: Inspect and adjust as necessary
· Timing Drive Belts: Inspect and adjust as necessary
· Cooling System Hoses & Connections: Inspect
· Fuel Injection Lines & Connections: Inspect
· Ignition System Cables & Connections: Inspect
· F1 Gearbox Fluid: Inspect
· Power Steering Fluid: Inspect and bleed as required
· Brake System: Inspect pipes, hoses, calipers, connections, warning lights and parking brake operation
· Brakes: Inspect disks and pads
· Suspension: Inspect joints and tightness
· Battery: Inspect connections and charge condition
· Doors, hood & Trunk hinges and dampers: Inspect
· Seats & Seatbelts: Inspect
· Bodywork Screws Tightness: Inspect
· Headlight Aiming: Inspect

Most dealers insist that FNA recommends a coolant change as well but I asked that they don't do this since it wasn't listed in the book. The cost of this service is $1K to $1.2K depending on dealer inclusive of parts and labor. The cost of the specified engine oil (Shell Helix Ultra) alone, is $15 to $20 and 10 liters are needed. Labor is about 3.5 to 4 hours at $90 to $100 per hour.

Oil change... $32.00 for TR oil filter at the dealer, about $17.00 for a case of oil (12 Qrt.), a couple of beers (~ $1.50), and done, but then... that's just me!

Ferrari of Seattle. They're the only choice here.

Perhaps the price difference is due to location and market area. I would still like to see written, itemized lists to make sure they're both doing the exact service.

Both dealers told me it is basicly an oil change and lubrication. Willis which dealer did your 5K service?

5K service was $352 for me. Get an itemized list of what's performed on a 10K service from both dealers and see if there are any differences.

I Just called up Ferrari of New England and asked them the price for the 10k service which is basicly an oil change and was told $500.00 . then called up Ferrari of Long Island which is owned by the same people and were given a figure of $1200.00 . What is going on here? What do you guys pay for an oil change?

I never implied that the bumper was made of aluminum. I was stating that the whole car including the bumper does not have good quality paint compared to modern exotics or even earlier F cars that I've owned. And it is not the aluminum doing it as my 7 year old NSX has a far better and harder finish. Beleive me, with the 360, you can go for an innocent drive away from traffic and come back home half an hour later and notice a whole bunch of new stone chips.

They have to use molded plastic nowadays to pass that 5mph bumper hit with no damage to the car law. It's the only thing that so far has worked for the car companies regarding this, and still can be shaped to look well with the body and paint (doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, ie bumper car rubber across the front and back of 308s).

Molded plastic? I don't know about the new Ferraris, but I believe my TR has an aluminum front bumper (it feels that way anyway). The rear bumper is pretty hard, but I believe is some type of composite (after inspection from the time I took it apart).

Tino---the front bumber is not an aluminum part.It is a molded plastic, just like all the other F-cars. In regards to the yellowing protectors, yes Ferrari will take care of it for you.
Willis-Besides looking 10 times better then stock, the 360 challange front grills do indeed help keep the radiators clean...

Being old fashioned and getting too long in tooth to learn new tricks I went with the 6 spd which is vastly improved over my previous 355 shifter. If I did a lot of track time I would have gone with the F1.
Either way it's a great machine.

I'm thinking about installing Challenge style front grills. The stock grills have large openings and quite a bit of leaf and other debris get inside (a real b!tch to clean out). What do you guys think?

Tino, I don't think the bumper is made of aluminum but must agree on the thin paint. I'm getting quite a few chips and nicks on the bumper with the onset of fall and winter driving. It takes a bit of hard work to get rid of them. My plan is to get the car to a shop for some professional touch up then install Stonegard on the bumper.

There is an issue with the 360 that I forgot. And I happen to know that I am not the only one who came across it.
Paint thickness/adhesion on the aluminum body is poor to say the least. If you plan to drive on the track or tailgate your favorite SUV on the freeway, make sure you buy a bra or use some protection. The nose chips quite easily (both the bumper and the hood/fenders). Also, the factory-installed protective tape on the lower rear ducts and wheelwells tends to yellow quite easily. I understand this particular item is covered under warranty although I have not had it done yet.

Rick,

The F1 is really a lot of fun especially when the car is driven on the track. If I were ordering another car, I would get it over again. I never liked the Ferrari gated shifter but they say the one on the 360 is hugely improved.

My car doesn't beep and has had no F1 issues. The US warranty is 3 years with unlimited miles.

Had my 2001 360 Modena F1 since April 2001. 6,000+ miles and no major issues. The car just need to be driven frequently. Give it gas, check the fluid levels, and regular cleaning. That's about it. Had a punctured tire recently but that wasn't the car's fault.

I've had my 360F1 since 11/00 (4100 miles so far) with no issues except a few beeps. No regrets for F1, it's the way to go. Warranty is 3 years with unlimited mileage.

Does any one know if there were any issues with the 2000 360 modena's. I know that there were plenty with the 99 models. i am purchasing one and wanted to know if there is anything i should be aware of.

Thanks

Rick
