I am thinking that you would also want to give your heart a good workout. If it has a good ability to keep the blood pumping and the pressure up while you are experiencing the various g forces, this will be to your advantage. I am not sure what kind of training fighter pilots do, but they experience tremendous g forces that can cause them to black out if they are not up to the job. Maybe there is information on their training regimen. Minus the live ammunition exercises.

Rob, u need weight training also to put up with the G forces. My Mitsu VR4 with the AP brakes has got to pull over 2Gs in braking :) Also I have a few cars including the 512TR that probably accelerate close to 1G Then throw in some tight corners & of course u need strong arms & neck

weight bad, endurance good, coordination good.

Each week I try to do one over distance workout and one sprint workout (intervals). You can never go wrong with variety. Swimming is good for all around endurance and strength without adding heavy bulk.

And this helps Mark Martin win races? I think Jimmy Spencer finished higher in the points than Mark and look at him.

I believe Mark Martin has a book on strength training for drivers. I skimmed it like three years ago, so can't give you any details. Motorbooks international probably has another title or two.

i dont know what pro drivers do, but i can give you one peice of advice. It helped me get bigger for football and increase my stregnth ans speed. Once you start the routine, keep it. Its easy, it becomes habit to do your workout. Dont miss one either because then you start getting lazy and missing alot.

interval training works best - I wrote an article on How to physically race prep yourself - I'll see if I can dig it up.

My trainer Olga the "pitbull" makes sure I have good upper body strength for driving and strong legs for those hard Ferrari clutches :)

WIlliam - have you had a chance to go to that racing clinic in FLA (?)that deals with physical/health issue?
