Michael, is this the gray 512 sitting at the Mercedes dealer in Tacoma, WA?

Checked around and tools are $1150-$1200 for a complete set (new)

The whole set of books including case and service locations are $925.

Looks like a $2000+ deduction..

Right William, then after you've SEEN the reciepts for the major service, call and speak to the person who did the work. He may have found other problems with the car.

Regarding the tools, I don't condone keeping them as souvenirs... this is just a fact. I think they should remain with the car.

If there was no maintenance records I would immediately subtract the cost of a major service cus I'd have that done immediately. & u have to SEE the receipt, dont just let them tell u , "yeah it was done"
Its easy to get a price on tools & books over the net

The TR tool kit is quite expensive. Well, would a $5k deduction be fair for no records and no tool kit?

Was offered 2.2K for my 1990 TR toolkit. The 512TR must be more. William is dead on about his price. Sorry, mine are not for sale.

Well, I got lucky, my 308 had just about all the owners literature in the original fabric holder. But I was missing some pieces, and I have to tell you that I really enjoyed looking for the other pieces. I had fun piecing together my tool roll. It was sort of a challenge. I'm still looking for some pieces. When I sell the 308, the next owner will have an excellent, complete 308 QV.

I agree. Also, why would they want to keep the tools especially if they get less for the car since it is missing tools and records.

Bobd, That's souvenirs they could sell to someone and make some bucks off them. I don't think that's the right thing to do. If you sell a car, everything that it came with in the first place should be included.

I wouldn't call it stealing... former owners keep the tools and books because they make good souvenirs.

There's seem to be a lot of Ferraris for sale without books and tools. Is there a reason for that? Were they stolen?

The tool box in the 512TR is pretty comprehensive, I would imagine it costing a lot more than $600. I would guess closer to $2,000

Books/Tools missing because dealer lost them in a move. The 30k was done by a very respected Seattle area mechanic about 4months ago..records exist of that service

Do you also mean the service books?
The main problem is:
Why are the books missing?
Do you have some bills showing the millage and service done to the car?

Well, you can piece together the books off of ebay and Ferrari Market Letter, same with the tool box. I'd venture to say the books will warrant about $500-$600 and the tool box will cost you about $500-$800, depending on where you find it.

Look in Hemmings, check Ferrari Market Letter and scour ebay. Also, there is Ken Lewis in Florida who sells lots of Ferrari stuff. He is a really cool guy too. His email addy: [email protected]

Looking at a 512tr where the books + tools were misplaced.. any idea what kind of deduction that warrants?
