For those who are into it: Name a few good websites where they have a good selection of 1:18 scale models/die cast to buy from. I am looking at building a Ferrari model. The 360 from Tamiya is too small, only 1:24, I believe. I want big like 1:18 or bigger. Thanks!

This is a long discussion involving efficiencies etc but in a nut shell as you go up in speed, the power requirement to overcome aerodynamic drag goes up exponentially as the speed increases - -so when you get over 100 mph sometimes a 10mph increase requires a 50 to 100 % increase in power - These numbers are bogus only examples of principal

Simple "ideal" estimate. 25 more MPH out of 200 mph total, around 10% more velocity (or 1.10 times total). A velocity vector is a straight line w/ no frontal area. Area, is a 2 dimensional flat surface 10 X 10 = 100, you just performed a calculus integration. Thus, you will need about 100% more HP at the rear wheels.( Note; all this is an ideal estimate, you also need to account for additional fictions ......etc.) Example; if you start with 350 HP now you need 700, but with more frictions everywhere maybe 900 HP.
(In real life you need to think in exponentials, I just used the "ideal" graph of "X squared" to estimate power needed.)

It gets really hard to push all that air when you go that fast. The air resistance increases geometrically as speed increases. Maybe someone who knows what they are talking about will respond.

A 900HP TR with a max speed of only 215?
I was going 190 in my 1991 Testarossa stock.

Maybe somebody can explain this to me. It appears that it does not matter how many HP you add to a car, your top speed virtually does not change. WHY IS THAT?

Hey, I just came from NORWOOD autocraft. Man! (I can't stop smiling.)

1)They are building a 288 fakie-do, from a 308, with total Carbon Fiber Body Panels and a Testa Rossa Twin Turbo Power Plant. The intercooler for this much air is about 3' X 2' in size!
This beast has 12 ported injectors for normal running and 24 additional Big Bad Bosch Injectors dumping raw fuel into the intake trumpets for feeding @ Max Boost.
2) Building an early Testarossa, with only a stage-2 system, Twin Turbo, Twin Air/Water intercoolers only 650 HP. Totally streetable.
3) Also, on display for sale for those with fat wallets, a 512BB with a late model Testarossa powerplant. Verrrrry pretty in red.
4) Also, with twin air/air intercoolers, another fakie-do 288. Pretty in red.
5) More, more,,,,, more I can't think. My brain is gonna explode................ aaaaaaaaarrrrggg.
6) Oh yah, a twin turbo Testarossa, 900HP top speed 215mph I want one. To keep this thing on the ground at that speed, w/o disrupting the stock lines, a slender-lip spoiler tacked around the tail. (This will trip laminear flow to turbulant.) Yah, pull up next to this at a stoplight in a Honda, rev your engine. And........................!

I know that....actually was sitting on one this weekend. We had a Road King and a Fat Boy and drove down in the Keys for a beer. :)

Sorry just realized that you probably went for a hot chocolate...LOL

Of course!

I'm surprised no one mentioned the 69 Dodge Charger in the corner - the "General Lee" I thought for sure Martin would be on that like a fat boy on a twinkie....

(Bottom shelf is for the ...um......"non-Ferraris" or other "red" cars).

Oooooooooooops - Let me REPHRASE THAT - the paint rubbed off Enzo's nose - he looked like a drunk - you know...shiny red nose.....the guys on the street corners asking for change....

oh gawd...... (Nika pulling foot out of mouth)

Cheeper, not better! And, your right, we are crazy! I have made money on every other car I've owned. Even my Brand new Pickup Truck has made me tons of money. But, what is it? The sound? The smell? The looks? The control? (A supra doesn't have that) What?

Nika, I see you have twoooooooooo daytona's, partial mayhaps?

And, how would "you" know what a drunkin sailor looks like?

LOL and I thought I had a problem. There is a underground Ferrari world out there after all..

I have those in my office so the wife does not get totally nutz. On my desk alone is a 1:8 Testarossa and a 1:18 456 and 355 Spider besides the F-mouse pad and usually one F-book or some sort.

Now I have solved the house problem finally. We just went under contract for a new house with a 2 car garage on a Lagoon with a pool and room for an extension to a 3 car garage. Actually thinking about it I am not sure how many bedrooms. :)
who cares anyway, right?

ATTENTION: LOOKING FOR GARAGE WITH HOUSE ATTACHED

I do think it's time for me to move into a bigger home. I love my toys - know where most came from......but I curse when I have to dust all the buggers. The little Enzo figurine I carried around with me for a while ( as a joke) until the paint on his nose rubbed off and he was starting to look like a drunken sailor......

HOLY COW NIKA! That is so cool. I have got to make a display like that!!

Some of those models are fantastic!

12 step program??? I need a 24 step program!!!!!!!! I have all my race/media passes, invites, pix -you name it it's there! The signed paper is the 2001 Christmas menu of Ferrari's employee's party in Italy.....the garage I bought in Paris and lugged around other countires......I certainly am a sentimental ol' sap (sigh)

I swore I wouldn't turn my house into a shrine but I do need more space.

Here's my favorite model - bigger than 1:18 - it had rubber wires, great detail.....some italian "Carlo...?????" Not a Burago

Daytona

And SEEEEEEEEEEEEEE not all my models are yellow!

Woohoo where did you get those models? Some of em look bigger than 1:18 scale...I like that F50 diorama/garage. Get a bigger display case like the ones they use in retail stores with all four sides being glass and the cutesy little track lighting above shame, they look like they are crying for more space and lighting.

I looked at my cabinet tonight - packed to the rim with Ferrari stuff - I think for all the $$ I've spent on Ferrari models, toys, souvenirs etc - I could of upgraded to that 355 I want!

Just part of the shrine

Am I crazy - or should I just buy more shelves?
