Steve,
The R&R of the engine/transaxle unit has some not to intuitive tricks to it. I tried to ask for some tips from other Jalpa owners around the world when I made the decision to do this and had some offers to help but no delivery on the tips. It sure would have helped as there are no shop/maintenance manuals to speak of. I would be glad to give you some pointers when you are ready. My e-mail is in the profile. I hope to be loading the engine and transaxle back into the car within the next 1-2 weeks. Then the fun begins, I hope your wiring is in good shape...no schematics/diagrams to be had. Ferraris are a piece-of-cake to work on compared to these things. But like almost anything else...experience make us better at it.

Lawrence, I agree with you that it is more comparable to a 328.I know the engine sure sounds great with those Webers. I did see your site from the link on the Lambo registry. It looks like your doing a good job,and I love the exhaust coating.Do you have any tips on the removal proccess?Hope to see it posted there. I will be doing a similar job sometime in the future.Keep up the good work!

Hi Guys,

Well I don't post here much anymore because I have a '87 Jalpa now. I did have a '91 348TS before it's untimely dismise. I am in the process of restoration on the Jalpa. I have driven a nice selection of Ferrari's and would match the Jalpa closer against the 328's more so than 308's. It does have 4 x 42DCNF series Webbers Carbs which provide for an interesting acoustic effects. As Steve Lauren mentions, I'd also be happy to answer specifics. I did create a small website to journalize the progress I can post the link if there is some interest here.

Ken, I currently have the pleasure of owning both the Jalpa and the 308. They both have their +/-. In terms of maintenance it is similiar except the Jalpa does not have timing belts, it has timing chains, which makes it easier for me since both cars are not driven too much and I have had to change the belts on the Ferrari because of elapsed time and not milage. Both cars have distinctive engine sounds. The Jalpa is bigger inside, yet at 6'3" I fit better in the Ferrari. I love both cars and it is hard for me to say which is the better car. If you have any specific questions post them I will respond to you.

The Jalpa is a cool looking car, but from what I understand, has a terrible maintanence record. The 308 is said to be relatievly easy to maintain

Does anyone know how these two cars compare in terms of pricing, performance, and maintenance? Finding info on the Jalpa P 350 seems to be a little difficult. TIA.
