william - as james and aaron pointed out, it's pretty non-trivial stuff. i run such a company. if you want ultimate production values (eg: GT3 on PS2) it's big bucks to design, code, test, and market such a product. if it doesn't have to be realistic, or maybe it's more abstract, you might be able to find a budding game company that'd be happy to do some work for you on a T&M basis. if you're dead serious and think it's a real opportunity, you need to get some designs together (err on the side of sex and sizzle) and shop it around to the big players. but it's a very messy business. fyi - europe has always been WAY hotter on racing games than the us market. good luck! doody. |

Michael - you are quite welcome. Italy Service will do you well when your magical moment arrives. William - video games can be a complicated business and it isn't simply calling a developer and have them build your game - they are usually overloaded building their own. My humble advice is to search for some local small development company - maybe someone working out of their garage. Don't know of any big company who would really be interested - it's not their usual modus operandi. Feel free to contact me through my email - I might be able to answer more specific questions and point you in some possible directions. Aaron |

Hey William, why don't you collaborate with Aaron Marks (Aaronb)? Look at his profile on this board. I looked at his profile and it shows he does video games. BTW, Aaron, thanks for the referral to Italy's Service, they are at a hop skip and a jump away from me in town. When I do get my Ferrari, then I won't have to worry about going out of state for service. |

It probably depends on the scope. Video game budget are not cheap. Developers/publishers like Square, EA, 989, Sega, MS, Acclaim and the like often have development budgets of $5 million or more for one game. And the break even point for most games is 250000 to 500000 sales. If it's a somewhat realistic racing game, you may pitch it to Infogrames or CodeMasters. |

You might try the guys at Insomniac Games in L.A. They do games for Sony Playstation like Spyro the Dragon (which I worked on with them briefly). The guys are young, love video games, and the head guy is a car nut - he just bought a really nice M3 when I was working for him. They should be under information in LA either in the area code 818 or 323. Go for it William! ~C |
