What really needs to be done to reduce smog is get rid of stupid disel fuel. Have you seen the amount of black smoke that comes out of the trucks and cars that run on them. I truely think that these vehicals produce 100 time more smog than the typical car. Especially the new 0 emissioins cars. GET RID OF DIESEL

I would think it would be hard to regulate and even getting the project moving. Very high $$$ too.

Well, that does sound like the government. It will probably cost a couple hundred million of our dollars to implement and maintain, and will likely be a total failure. I can see the grin on my traffic attorney's face allready. Seriously, can you imagine the type of equipment necessary to pull this off? Not only would the equipment have to be maintained very well and constantly tested for efficacy, but also anyone who touches the equipment would have to be well trained.

What about if you live in an area that doesn't have emissions testing but pass through one that does. Can they still fine you? I don't like this. My 308 has a high CO rating Carbs, no cats, etc.

I dont see the damn relationship between the war on terror and reducing smog!! They always want to tack on some unrelated crap and try to justify this. Again, something else for the people of America to THINK about....another tie in to the "Education" thread posted on this site

About 5 years ago I was involved with the prototypes of this kind of unit. Only 3 were sold I was told they had major probelms. With the advancement with the detection units they may work better now ( damn )

I don't believe that! How can you test the emissions coming out of a car in less than a second? What about variables like air quality and surrounding vehicles? I could understand if they pulled you over at the side of the road and subjected you to a test but come on, this is a little far fetched. Just my opinion.

The days of our "test pipes" may soon be over. Our Imperial Federal Gov't is testing a Nation wide smog tester to be placed at selected exit ramps, toll roads and other bottlenecks which test your exhaust as you pass by and take a picture of your tag and mail you a fine and subpoena requiring you to prove you have had the emission problem fixed if you fail. It's all part of a nation wide driver's license and car registration program being discused on Capital Hill. They claim it is justified by the new "War on Terror" as well as getting the worst offending cars off the road. The new sytem would do away with the indivual state's testing.
