Martin, outhouses are history and you should swimm in a nice clean lake, you will love it. Willis there is no risk for people living outside of Finland, they do not send tickets after you, and there is no possibility for them to know your income. Do you know what guys did first when they came home after winter war 1939 against Russia? Ofcourse they made love to their wifes, and then they took of their skis. |

I just can not get friendly with the idea of using an outhouse or taking a bath in the lake. I am not the nature type I guess... |

So, let's say you're a foreigner in Finlandia and got caught speeding. Do they fine you by your income in the U.S.? |

just my point and then it is dark for 6 months and light for another 6 months. Alcohol is severely expensive so you can not even drink to make it through the winter months... In summer there are 1000 mosquitos... |

Gratulations Martin for your Finnish wife, then you know the seacret with scandinavian girls With no income the fine is around 50$ for that crime. The equal punishment for the same crime is a joke in this case. In theory low income people suffer the same for a 50$ ticket as a high income guy for 100.000 $ fine. Who keeps that kind of money "loose" just in case, you have allways to make some kind of selling to have the money, and to be forced to do this could be very expencive. The high taxes they pay is punishment enough. |

Sounds like that old Steve Martin joke: "A solution to over-population? That's simple --- Death Penalty for parking violations." |

I received a ticket, sent to NY, for speeding at 38mph in a 35mph zone in the Netherlands. For 3mph they go through the effort of sending a ticket to the states! If you go 35mph over the limit they confiscate your car. Talking about strict. Last month there was an officer of the Dutch equivalent of the National Highway Safety Board caught speeding at 144km/h (90mph) in a 70km/h (43mph) zone. This was televised on national television. |

ON another thought it is very very disturbing to know that the police is able to plot into a central computer and know your income. What else do they have stored? Time to move if you ask me! When we get this far I will move to an island and retire. Who needs that crap? |

JOrma, dispite my wife and my mother in laws efforts to get me to come to Finland to their house they have outside of Helsinki, now I know why I can not come. On the other hand I do not have any income. How do they rate this then? 8 x 1/60 of nothing is still nothing! |

I know it was a joke, but my reaction was moore against " courr´s mercy following..." He was smart enough to sell his dot-com before the collapse. |

Edwin, thats bull, I know the guy. He have one Diablo and one Modena. He is good for over 100 Mil. Fim. The reason for his reduced fine was old income records from last year, the year he sold his company. The year he made the speeding he did not earn that much money, he was moore like relaxing, like raceing in my class. And the answer to Richelsons question is, computers. The cops just dial in a NOKIA cellular phone your ID and in seconds they have your last year income, but like in this case the income had chanched, and the court reduced the fine according his present income. But this new case it will hold, unless they chance the laws. |

The Nokia Exec. was driving a motorscooter and is appealing his fine based on an $11,000 fine levied on a Ferrari owmer who was driving erratically. His (F-car owner) fine was reduced to $100 after pleading for the court's mercy following the dot-com collapse stating that his income/networth had evaporated. Despite his poverty plea, he still had his Ferrari ????? No house, bank account or food but he still had his Ferrari. |

I heard about that. I had never heard about the law in Finland before. Watch those speed limits over there. How do they know your income? |

This is possible only in Finland, speeding over 20 km/h can be very expencive. Doing 121 km/h in freeway in 100 limit cost you 8 x 1/60 of your monthly incom. If you are speeding only 20 km/h it will cost you 100$, allways, rich or poore. This is Finish justice Wellcome to Finland with your Ferraris. |
