BTW - in addition. These importers were responsible for getting Bill Gates' McLaren F1 in to the US - so they have some cred. |

aren't there epa/dot issues for newer canadian ferraris? aren't you going to run into the same problem that currently exists in attempting to bring in euro cars? |

Najib, here is a site that lists which new Ferrari is admissible into Canada. Grandfather-clause is ANY car 15 years old and older is exempt from all regulations (can be imported without any mods) http://www.tc.gc.ca/securiteroutiere/importusa/english/im3fer_e.htm |

ah-hem Vancouver??(Hands on hips...toe tapping) I think NOT. Toronto (okay apart from the frigid weather right now) has soooooooomuch more! Great shopping - fabulous restaurants & entertainment - it's the NYC of Canada.....who needs mountains and ocean.....and....(sigh)..oh nevermind |

John, thanks for the tip. I shall get in touch with them to discuss the formalities and see if it is cost effective. I am in no hurry though. Nika, with the UK becoming excessively expensive even for basic necessities (Cdn $1.75 for a litre of petrol), I am seriously considering moving to Vancouver because of its milder weather. You might just get the chance to test drive an imported Ferrari after all. I'm almost certain (in advance) that it will get your approval. |

For importing European cars into Canada (and then far easier onto the US if you want) try contacting the guys at MCP Motorsport in the UK (www.mcpmotorsport.com). They specialise in sourcing rare and exotic motors and have a tie up with a Canadian importer (I think in Montreal) who can cover all of the importing hassles etc for a commission or flat fee. (BTW - No, I don't work for them, just on their mailing list looking for exotics!). |

On a slightly different subject, how difficult is it to import an Euro spec Ferrari into Canada? Does it inolve the same level of costs as the US? |

It really depends on how old the car is. When I brought my 78 308 in to Canada, all I had to do was show proof of ownership and pay the GST. Aside from that I didn't have to change a thing. |

It is relatively painless to bring a Canadian car in. I assume that you'll have to swap out the speedo cluster and get the kilometer-mileage conversion certified (and I'd get it notarized as well). This costs approximately 1-2 thousand (US). Other than that, the only difference you'd noticed is that there's no way to turn the headlights off. |

I know when I sold my car to a guy in California ($9100US = $14 200 CND) I had to call GM and request a letter stating the car meets DOT and EPA standards. I think that Ferraris are a little different in that they comply with both Canada and US saftey stadards. I believe they are virtually identical wheather a US or Canadain car. Depending on the age it may not even matter. With the dollar so bad I'd be willing to take bids on my GT4 for some green US currency. |

I think the cars for Canada are the same with regards to smog - you have to test emmissions every 2 years. The only difference - I think we have a higher mph bumper rating for our cars. Is the US a 2 or 5mph bumper rate? My baybeeeeeeee ain't for sale (huff)

As of 1.17.02 $ 1.00 (CAN) = .62 (US) OR $ 1.00 (US) = $ 1.62 (CAN) |

Are Canadian cars smogged and prepared the same as a US car? Are North American cars able to be registered anywhere in NA? |
