Tim - I feel for you mate.

I would advise the same as maranelloman, but if you cant afford it then you can't afford it and that's that.

If you want really cheap thrills you could look at the Diasio 962; but it sounds to me like you enjoy serious power under your right foot. Neither the Diasio or the Lotus 7 will give you that.

I've always been impressed by those open-wheeled racing cars, like the ones that Skip Barber has at the school in Limerock. What about Lotus 7 type racing? I don't know how much wheel time you've had before this, but that seems to be very much back to basics driving, those cars handle like almost nothing else and, talk about fairly cheap...

Thanks a ton Bill and Jim. thats what makes this board great, everyone here understands where we are coming from and the pain and joy we all experience with owning a Ferrari. and yes I do rely on this place as a support forum, everyone has helped me that past few days feel much better and I thank everyone for that. its also a great place to share our excitement about getting a Ferrari wether it be the first or the 50th.

Tim:

Whatever direction you go in, you've earned a lot of respect for the way you've handled this situation. Your description of the incident was honest, lucid and very engaging, as opposed to the Porsche owner who couldn't make up enough excuses to satisy his ego.

I like the way you use this chat line as a support group rather than as a bragging forum. Go the tube frame crate motor route and enjoy the hell out of it.

I think Tim has the right idea. Buy a cheapie car to race in, have a great 360 for the street. Then he has 2 nice Ferraris AND a race car.

Im selling not because I dont love the car, it is the best car I have ever driven. But it is so expensive to repair a minor incident like I had that it is ridiculous, $25K. it is not untypical to blow an engine a season at a cost of $50K. setup for each track is about $1500. after the track event, tires $1600, brake pads $1500, if the rotors are cracked, also fairly common after each track event, $1600 a pair, a ton of work to do in between runs. All in all a lot of work and money. I know, go ahead and hit me guys, why didnt I check this out before. I assumed that it couldnt have been much more detailed than my other track cars, wrong. Yes I should have no assumed anything when it comes to a Ferrari especially one this technically advanced. You cannot even bleed the brakes without hooking a computer up to it.

Yes I could grow into it, learn how to drive better, correct better, etc, etc. but I would always have this little monkey on my back reminding me that one mistake will cost a ton.

I can buy a used up grand-am, GT or some other race car roller, drop a crate motor in it and be good to go for around $40-50K. the car will handle better than the 360 and I can get parts at Checker Auto for pennies on the Ferrari dollar. If I blow a motor, buy another for around $4 - 5K. it would also be a much safer car from a structural stand point and fiberglass body panels are a couple hundred bucks ea.

I dont want to sell the car and would love to keep it and drive it but it would be a long time before I was driving it to the limits because I would be bashful about putting it in the wall again because of the cost for repairs. But it seems in life the right decisions are always the hardest and usually the ones we dont want to make but must do. Its just the right thing. Besides with the money I save in repairs alone, not including the cost of the car, I could buy a street 360, other cars that I would love to have.

But thank you all very much for the encouragement. Help me sell it. These cars are hard to find and its a 2002 with only a couple miles on it and will be good as new in two weeks.

Tim,

I would encourage you not to sell this car, not yet anyway. I'm sure you and your instructor have talked through the incident. Learn from it and go forward, but don't make any decisions until you have an opportunity to get back in the car.

I look forward to meeting you next week in LA. And, like everyone else I am thrilled that you are OK. Sheet metal can be repaired.

See you at the track. You can help me harass Chris Parr!!!

Tim, DON'T SELL IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Learn some more line-correction techniques, etc. there at Bondurant--he's right in your back yard. Tear up his Cobras, etc. Then get out on track--but in a green/novice group! Don't go in advanced!!!

Please, do not give up on your 360C. Fix it, keep it, and learn how to drive it gradually.

Anyone else here agree with me?

Well I have come to a decision; I am going to sell the car. I think it is to technical for me at this point and Im in over my head. I need to learn on a lesser car and one that is cheaper to fix, hopefully I wont be fixing anything that I end up with. Body shop says it not that bad of a repair. Will be complete in three weeks. Two cracked wheels, bent tie rod, and a couple other components. Fenders can be pounded out but I am going to replace them anyway.

2002 360 F1 challenge, silver (not Titanium) two seats, car and seat covers, slicks and rain tires. $165K no anyone interested? Please send them my way. Thanks.

I can email pics and details of car.
