Adam Just saw your question, I am good for two years so I'll see when it comes time again. I plan on having the service done in the next few weeks, I just got the new tires for him to put on. He said just to call him when I am ready. I will let you know how it works out. |

Rich, It will work unless you have a car that is so far out of tune it would not pass regardless. |

Is there a show car exemption in California? |

Any of you guys ever used emission pass additives such as "Guaranteed to Pass" etc? Are they restricted for sale in certain states? They worked for me. Like previously stated by others, get the car nice and hot. |

I took it once through emissions testing, in lieu of getting my "Collector" status for my GT4. One big goon opened the door to the car, looked back and forth at the seat, turned and said "there ain't no way I can fit in there". He signaled to the woman inspector (who just happened to be quite petite) and she jumped in. My heart jumped out of my chest when she was driving it on the tread-mill and suddenly she went flying back! She moved the seat forward and didn't lock the handle properly! She was also at the beginning of the test doing the visual inspection, standing at the FRONT of the car asking to open the hood to view the engine... I was shaking by the time I left the building. Oh by the way, I failed the test big time. A month later, my application went through and I got my status... I never have to see them again Advice for passing the test? Drive the car lots, get it nice and hot, run the highest octane pump gas, make sure your air-filter is clean, you've had a recent oil change, clean PCV valve, etc... It all helps. |

Tom; When it is time again, just let Bryan do it. He has the equipment and does not run it on the rollers. It is worth the few $$ not to have some idiot beat on it. BTW did you have the service done yet... |

Tks Bob! Sounds like you have Haggerty like I do so I should be good. I did just test in Nov and passed easily but I'd rather just avoid the whole thing. |

Ken It is listed as a show car exemption, I have limited use insurance policys on my play cars 2500 mi a year. Stop by a test station and ask for a show / race car exemption form. The limited use policy is a must to get the exemption. |

I was a little nervous when I pulled up and the guys eyes lit up. I got more so when he asked if it had one of them steering wheel shifters (maybe I should have been flattered since I have an 86 mondial). I reminded him that first gear was back and in the end he took good care of it and even blew off doing the gas tank test since he could on find a compatible cap after one try. in 2 years I'll have to do it again |

Be very glad you do not live in Maryland where we must hand our prized toys over to a bunch of minimum waged knuckle draggers who foam at the mouth when they see us coming. Then to top it off, we are herded into a glass enclosed building to watch them carelessly put our cars onto a treadmill for a BS test that means nothing to the majority of the cars that are required to take it. The cars that do fail, only have to spend $200 on their car to get a waiver. I would gladly pay the state the money just to not have Tyrone in his dirty overalls sit in any of my cars. |

I have gotten exemptions for my 73 MGB and an 87 BMW in IL, after taking the wifes Z3 to the test station and seeing the morons they have working, when the notice for my 308 comes I will apply for an exemption on that also. If for some reason it is denined I will register it in a non test area. |

All our cars are always "inspected" by a friend so I know nothing about the whole procedure here. I never even got the Fcar inspected, knock on wood. I got pulled over twice and no one ever said anything either. I guess when I'm done with all this stuff I might as well get it done. Do they really make you put your car on a treadmill in NJ? No offense taken Chris, I wouldn't want some half a$$ government employee driving my jeep, needless to say the Ferrari. Is there any way that you can drive it instead of them? Like Tom and Magoo said, some octane booster and getting the car really hot should help it pass emissions testing at least. |

They can't use the car speedo because the computer needs to know the speed of the car, so it must track speed itself. |

I think another key is get the engine nice and hot to warm up the cats. Does anyone know when they do those treadmill tests do they use the cars speedo for the speed or the machine. My emissions test in NJ (which has a tough test) barely showed anything. I thought maybe he used the cars speedo which like most F-cars is ten miles fast. |

Will that work putting in the octane booster and going to emissions? |

How old is the car? I think the cut off in IL is about 1980 for the treadmill test. My 72 only had to pass the idle test. They didn't even have a Europa in the computer! Those kids could bearly drive a stick so I share your fear. |
