Ernesto does stress a good point, but most of these systems use mass-air-flow sensors (electronic or mechanical) which measure the volume of intake air coming in and adjust accordingly. Carbs are just as self-adjusting as the volume of air flowing into the bore, has its affect through the auxilary venturi and draws the correct amount of emulsified fuel out. Just be aware that if you do adjust its maximum opening, its not affecting the closed (idle) position and if you have mulitple throttle plates, that they are adjusted equally or thereabouts (when adjusted using a flow-gauge). |

That the throttle body only opens 60% or 75% on any given car is no accident. Cars are tuned from the factory (or any other place) for a specific air/fuel mixture. By opening up the throttle all the way via cable adjustment, you are getting a lot more air into the engine. You better make sure you (or the car's ECU) have enough fuel capacity and adjustment potential to compensate for this significant additional volume of air going into the engine. If you lean your car out, it will not be cheap. Ernesto |

That is good news! So you adjusted the throttle cable? How did you do that? Thanks |

Just picked up my car the other day for a service (Lotus) and the mechanic told me the car was never running at full 100% power. He told me that when I would floor the accelerator pedal it did not necessarily mean I was getting wide open throttle. My car was only running at 60%. This made the biggest difference in the world for no extra money. I asked him what the cause was for this and he told me these cars are hand made so they are different and someone may have screwed up. Went home and checked if this was also happening with the Ferraris and sure enough my TR was not opning up all the way. I'd say it was about 75%. Let me tell you this car flies now. Checked the 355 (pain in the ass) but this one checked out ok. Like the mechanic said these cars were handbuilt and depending on the mood of the guy working or what guy is working this is cheapest way to check for freeing up a couple of them race bred horses under the hood. By the way this does not work on throttle by wire only cable operated. |
