I have been driving my Alfa Romeo Spider in NJ with one plate for years without any problems (knock on wood). The car has been inspected twice at the local DMV without any problems too. Both times I had the car inspected they never mentioned the lack of a front plate, but I was worried that they may mention something. The car passed both times so I assume they were too busy admiring the car. I had my Ferrari inspected by my mechanic, so the front plate was not even an issue as were the lack of cats (hint hint). Total cost was $65 for the inspection which is a deal considering no cats and no front plate. Do not even think of getting your car inspected if you do not have cats. The fine is $5K.
Italian cars were not meant to have a front plate. I would rig the front plate with some double faced tape (make sure it is not too adhesive so that your paint is not damaged) and see what happens. Good luck.

we have the same idiocy here in MA. i never drive with a front plate. just rig it. if NJ is like MA you don't even have to pretend. i just hang it lengthwise through one hole so it drags on the ground and can't hit the paint :-). the inspectors don't care.

doody.

Edwin

I would never do this but ...... rig it on at a gas station around the corner - drive up get it inspected and once you are done take it off. - you may need more now that you failed and you will have to go back and have it inspected just for that

I failed inspection today because of no front plate. Have any other Jersey owners had a similar experience? It was like arguing a called third strike------rules are rules and the supervisor in charge said "no car leaves here with only one plate" I showed him my sticker from 2 years previous and and told him that I left then with one plate------just a shrug of the shouders from him then??????? Any ideas? I have a 355 so was thinking of rigging a temporary bracket.
