O.k guys. When I got my car one of the things people said to me was "be prepared to get blown away by mitsubishis (if that is how you spell it) Anyway a buddy of mine has a 97 eclipse turbo. All my friends say how fast it is. They all like my 308 but always talk about how fast Bobs eclipse is. Anyway today he got the psi on his turbo cranked up and now he wants to run against me. I am thinking man I am going to get killed but O.k. I told him lets go from a rolling start as I don't want to abuse my clutch. We start from a roll at about 20 or 30mph and hit it. I wait for him to swallow me up but he isn't catching me. I hit third and start to pull hard and now I start to lose him. 4th and now I know he isn't catching me. We do a few more runs all with the same result. I don't know who was more shocked him or me. I know it isn't like I beat a 911 turbo or anything. But I thought he was going to kill me and so did our friends. Love this car guys! |

Sorry, my memory fails me. But recently in one of the car mags, they had a comparison between a late 80's 328 and a late 80's 911. They were close on 0-40 acceleration, but the Ferrari had it by 1-2 seconds in each of the "moving accelerations", like 20-60, 40-80, and 60-100. Heck, I'll give up a few tenths at first to get several seconds down the road. |

My first and only street race was with an older 911(I would say early to mid 80s). I was stopped at a light and he came coasting up behind me. When the light turned green he jumped out into the turn only lane and passed me before I even moved. Of course I took off after him. I followed him real close for about a 1/4 mile. We headed up to a four lane road(2 lanes south 2 north). This light was green and we both turned north and stomped on it. I saw his exhaust belch smoke so I knew he was on it. I pulled right up into his tail and went past him and went up to about 110 and eased it back down. He went past and gave a friendly honk and I gave him one back. I was suprised I passed him fairly easily. I thought he would blow me away. |

Most interesting track story I have is the time I was out at PIR (Portland, OR) during a Ferrari 'track day' when there was a collision between a 550 Maranello and a 355 --- both cars had damage to all 4 sides --- yikes! Best "street" story I have is from a trip I took from Eugene to Portland (about 120 miles along I-5). I was in the Boxer when I pulled out in the left lane to pass a minivan (Chrysler Caravan, or something) that was clipping along at about 80mph (speed limit is 75 there). I pulled along side slowly, passed sanely at about 85-90, got back ahead of him at 80. A few minutes later, he passed me at about 100 -- I was shocked. So, I couldn't resist... I pulled along side, looked over, and gave the guy a thumb's up with a giggle. He pointed straight ahead, and floored it! The minivan maxed out at about 120 (pretty impressive actually). I got in front, and he paced with me at 120 for some 25 miles. I was just about to end the game (and return to more socially responsible speeds) when I saw the minivan disappear in a cloud of steam (his, not mine) in my mirrors. You gotta admire that guy's style!! |

Ok, I don't street race. That would be too irresponsible for a licensed SCCA member. However, I do "exhibition" the car now and then. Several weeks ago I had a new 911 that wanted an "exhibition". A smart driver knows his car and it's strengths and weaknesses, plus those of the opposition. I knew the 911 would kill me off the line, so I picked my fight. I took off slow like I wasn't racing up to about 4,500 rpm in 3rd, then let him have it... Next thing I knew I was 120 and he was a dot in the rear view mirror. Seconds later I shut it down and the 911 finally caught up and passed me panting. He had been trying hard. I don't even race most family cars off the line. That's not the car's strength. |

My friend with the F40 was running it at Pocono a few years back. He had a rear tire blow out at 175 Mph!!!!! He said the whole rear of the car was in the air, he's damn lucky he wasnt killed & amazingly there was almost no damage to the car apart from a shredded tire & a trashed wheel |

That's what I hope to someday aspire to. The 308 could do it in the turns of my town (one of my friends is a cop and we proved that within the first week of me having it) but eventually I need a more powerful Ferrari, an F50 would do, so that out on the highway I could leave em behind (the 308 probably could, but I don't want to go to jail so we're not going to try). |

yeah, that is a great scene. a friend of mine has an F40 & he's a bit crazy, he does 200mph on the highway & leaves cop cars behind like boat anchors |

Does anyone have any good racing stories. What kind of cars have you beat and with what kind of ferrari. My dad drove my 308qv one time and one of the things he said when he got back was "everyone wants to race the ferrari". Anyone see the scene in the movie- Against all odds- with James Woods driving a black 308 and Jeff Bridges driving a red 911? It's a great scene, I bet I have watched it 25 times. Hopefully no one has raced like that. That is flat out insane! |
