If you still have problems email me privately and I will put you in touch with a friend of mine who owned a Porsche 959 and had the same problem. He is located in the UK.

Two major collector insurers:

Grudy: www.grundy.com

Hagerty: www.hagerty.com
These companies insure the collectors cars and boats. They also insure travelers.

Jason

You are not the 1st one (as you know you can drive it for up to a year in the US with your tags) I've seen UK/German/Swiss plates in the US mostly their home insurance covered them while away. I'd assume you are looking for a somehow nicer rate?

At one point I also contacted that Leland place but I've got the same impression as you. I'll ask around and let you know if somebody I know managed to get a local US insurance with a foreign tag. Have you tried Chubb?? they seem to cover some unusual situations.

Cheers

Jason,
If you ever were an officer in any branch of U.S. armed services -USAA ins at 1-800-531-8111 is great.I assumed this is not an option so I called them to ask advice and the ins "consultant" said as far as he knows your only option is to bring the car and get it registered in Calif-then obtaining ins would be no problem.
I have put in a call to a local agent I know and will bounce the situation off him.
Perhaps some of the Californian chat guys have some suggestions.

I'm going to be bringing my Euro 360 (left hand drive, but UK registered) to California for @ 1 year....I am trying to find a US insurance company that will insure the car (Import regulations mean the vehicle will not be US registered...it will have a UK license plate)I can't be the first person ever to drive a foreign registered vehicle on US soil...yet my initial contact with US insurers has been thoroughly unsuccessful.

I tried Leland West on a restrictive mileage policy.....I needed to have held a CA driving license for 9 years (failed at first obstacle)....and frankly reading the terms and conditions gave me the feeling that if anything did happen to the car, this company was going to wriggle very hard to get out of paying.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

FYI
my ideal policy is a restrictive mileage (max 5000 miles per annum)

Thanks
Jason
