We are removing .005" from my heads to clear up the seating surface. It does not say in the manual, at least I cannot find anything where it says how much can be removed. I fabricated a puller for the heads to remove it from the studs

can or has anyone shaved the heads(308)? due to warpage? or for more compression?

These P6 cams, are they the 10mm lift, 290° duration ones? I've heard they're pretty hairy for the street.

I'm it the middle also with a rebuild and about the same cost as Hertert on my 81 308. I too was using oil. I needed valve guides and exhaust valves. The number 3 cyl which Ferrari techs told me 3 is a "common" problem on the 308, was exh valve that was bad. I did a leak down test first and changed the shims which help all but two cylinders. Number 3 had a leak of (exh)70%! Number 6 was (exh)40% the rest were under 10% after new shims. I change all the exh valves because they take the "hardest beating" (Ferrari)and I don't want to do this again. I moved the engine back and not out. I talk to Ferrari mech alot and do some part time work for one out here in the bay area. One hard part is just getting the heads off after 20 years. I sprayed LPS 1 and LSP 2 down and around the studs and after about a day or two it broke free with no problem. Its not real hard just takes along time to do it right!

I think to get more power u will have to use carbs, new ignition, new exhaust, headers, P6 Cams, etc. probably near $10k altogether, maybe cheaper if u do the labor

I am in the middle of doing just that to my 82 308. I am doing most everything myself and going back stock but will add an ignition upgrade to DIS after I get it running again. So far I am about $2,800 into it in just parts. If you follow the previous posts on the oil consumption you will see that my problem turned out to be valve seals and not rings. My focus is on reliability and not power but I know the new ignition system will improve it somewhat. Let me know if I can help you. It is always good to talk to someone who has been there.
