Cool site. Thanks Gary. I kind of wish I got my car dynoed before I started this project and then I would be able to see afterwards how much I had gained on paper. I guess I'll only be able to tell by the seat of my pants. I kind of get the impression that my car wasn't running as much HP as it should have been though.

Those numbers sound about right.

BretM,

There are some other 308 videos and sounds at: http://www.ferrari308.com

Rob Lay,

Re: Your question about Dyno #'s.... My car registered 188 at the wheels that day. I later found out I had a bad distributor cap and rotor.....So maybe the figure was a little lower than normal?? Other numbers that day: 512TR=369, 456GT=371 328=210? I can't find the paper that I wrote all the figures on last year... We are having another Club Dyno Day on March 2nd and I will try to post all the results here.

I have no 308 videos or sound bites other than this one. Does anyone else have some just out of curiosity? Before Gary, I thought there was no hope to get 308 vids online.

Gary that's beautiful. I now think that I have to get an aftermarket exhaust soon. Damn you people. It takes so little to peer pressure me into these things that I want. I need a job, I'm gonna have to get a job eventually if I want to keep on modifying the 308. For this stuff I'll be alright, but when I finally start wanting titanium connecting rods and high pressure pistons I'm gonna need to be employed.

I drove behind Gary one day and I was making my shifts based on his engine sound. I couldn't even hear mine!

That's awesome, what were your numbers at the rear wheels?

I love my Tubi exhaust!! I installed in myself about 2 years ago on my 1983 308 GTS QV, and it took about 4 hours taking my time and going slowly. I also put in two stainless steel "test" pipes at the same time. The car sounds amazing!! Tunnels are especially fun to drive through at redline..... :) The 1983 QV is unique in that it has a true dual exhaust system with 2 cats and 2 muffler inlets instead of the single cat and single muffler inlet on the '84-85 QV's and all the 328's. I've never heard another 308 that sounds quite like mine.....

Here's a link to a sound file(500K wav file) recording of it winding out to 8K rpm in all 5 gears while sitting on a dyno at the NW Region-FCA Dyno Day event last year. 308QV-TUBI

There is a switch which is controlled by the boost from the turbo, when the preset is reached it will normally bypass the exhaust via the waste gate, if the boost continues beyond that then the electronics will interrupt the fuel supply. On the track it fels almost like a rev limiter kicking in, from the outside you hear a loud stutter between shifts.

Answering 2 threads...

Tubi - Installed myself...I am pretty handy but this ws definitely beginner level on the Mondial T. If you have a set of metric ratchets and box wrenchs, do it yourself. 12 bolt/nut combos if I recall at this hour. Seriously, it wouldn't take more than 45 minutes if my son wasn't there.

Totaled Car - Yep, I was the total loss guy. The picture is the old car, the new one is better exterior, better interior except for the carpet which I had just finished replacing the day it was totaled. I don't have a nice picture of the new car for posting yet, too much time in the rain/snow but plan on a multi-day detail later this month when wife takes a week with her sisters. (Kids will be duct-taped in house...)

Can you explain what exactly the safety switch is in the F40?
Brian stewart (Eurocardoc)
Posted on Tuesday, February 05, 2002 - 5:57 pm:

I have fitted several, only problem was the F40 comes on boost TOO quick, causes the safety switch to kick in when driven hard. Still working on a fix without messing with the ECU. They fit and look very good, the price is a little high but B&B and Borla can run the same for Porsches etc.. Did wonders on 348 and 355s.

Rob:

I've got a tubi on my 355. The sound is awsome, and there is a performance increase. I especially like it when coming off a corner, and their is slight wheelspin and the sound goes up with the wheelspin.

Great product

I guess it is all relative. $2,000 is a lot of money in parts for a 308. If you pay someone to service your car if won't go far but otherwise $2,000 can last a long time. Personally, I would rather save the money for extra timing belts, waterpump rebuild kits, rebuild my alternator/starter in the future, new tires when needed, etc. and I will still have money left over and an exhaust that works well.

I won't spend the cash for my 328. I don't think it makes that big of a difference on a 360. However, I heard a few on 550's. Wow! When I get a 550, the TubiStyle is a must.

Did you do the install your self? Is it hard? Also is that your old or new mondial in your profile. BTW it looks great. I thought I remember someone getting theirs totaled but I might be confused.

I think the Tubi was a great deal...look at what you spend for anything else for the vehicle. If you want a deal? Buy a Ford truck. They haul a ton of stuff, nice power and run forever. Of course, won't be near as fun but at least the exhaust will be cheaper!

$2k is not really that bad considering the cost of anything today. Try buying a nice exhaust for a Bimmer or a Borla exhaust for a Vette and see how much it costs you. The exhaust is great and I will definitely have it on all my Ferrari's.

$2,000 is not a very good deal for an aftermarket exhaust. That is a lot of money. I would much rather keep my original exhaust and save the $2,000 for parts etc.

Mitchel, you should call our new sponsor and see what they quote you or is $2,000 their price?

I WANT a Tubi, but I refuse to spend $2k on one. Screw that.

Best mod I did to mine. I installed a Tubi on my Mondial (purchased from Nick's, another sponsor) and I have noticed a lower rumble below 4000 and a higher scream above 5000. I love the difference it makes. If I can make it over to the NWFCA dyno day, I am going to see if that and the K&N make a measurable difference. Install time was minimal with my 3 year old asking questions like "can I take this wrench/nut/bolt/washer & what does sh#t mean daddy?"

BTW, my other mod has been limited sparco safety harnesses in the rear for my kids.
