Happens all the time, best to use ATE or Castrol LM. ALso learn how to bleed your brakes or have a mechanic meet u at the track. I would also highly suggest u upgrade your brakes. It should b easy for u to get a Challenge brake kit for your 360 which will make a world of difference. Good luck :-)

Yes, I am a member of Motorsport Ranch... I often show up on Fridays. I lost my brakes going into Big Bend (well over 100mph)... not exactly the kind of excitement I was seeking. :-)

A little research has shown that the 360 brake fluid is Shell Donax UB Ultra. The Shell site doesn't give much in the way of specs... just says the boiling point is 280'C... doesn't say if its wet or dry boiling point.

I guess the next question is whether I can switch to Castrol SRF (310'C dry and 270'C wet). Do SRF and Donax react? Will the 360 system work with SRF fine?

Anyone use alternate fluid in their 360?

Brian, what track do you use? Motorsport Ranch? I was just there last weekend doing a DE with the Porsche Club, and was there for the National Meet last May as well.

My mechanice uses Ford racing fluid in all the cars he services and never heard of one boiling. Many of the cars are worth 7 figures, so he and the owners are serious about brake systems. Conversely, a local guy had his changed at authorized dealer last year before national meet and he boiled his. I've seen other Ferraris boil 'em at tracks, but don't know what or when the fluid was changed.

Brian -- I'm not sure "Ferrari brake fluid" would define a single product. There will be a brake fluid brand specified in your year/model/version OM, but even a dealer may use something else when servicing. Below is something I picked up (I don't know Andie nor remember who actually posted this):

<start>

Some useful information from Andie over at Carbotech.

BRAKE FLUID DATA

ARRANGED BY DRY BOILING POINT:

DRY:401F -- WET:284F --- DOT3
DRY:446F -- WET:311F --- DOT4
DRY:502F -- WET:343F --- VALVOLINE SYNPOWER
DRY:509F -- WET:365F --- MOTUL 5.1
DRY:527F -- WET:302F --- AP RACING 551
DRY:536F -- WET:392F --- ATE SUPERBLUE/TYP200
DRY:590F -- WET:410F --- AP RACING 600
DRY:590F -- WET:518F --- CASTROL SRF
DRY:593F -- WET:420F --- MOTUL RBF600
DRY:610F -- WET:421F --- NEO-SYNTHETIC SUPER DOT 610

ARRANGED BY WET BOILING POINT:

DRY:401F -- WET:284F --- DOT3
DRY:527F -- WET:302F --- AP RACING 551
DRY:446F -- WET:311F --- DOT4

Don't know boiling point for stock fluid. Don't know brand, either. Once it's boiled it's pretty much cashed, IMO. May be overkill, but like fresh fluid before (and after) each track event. Have had good luck with Castrol SRF.

Feb 4th -- for cars taken to the track, the recommendation is every 6 months.

When was the last time you flushed the brake fluid? I was told to change mine every year, regardless of milage. I've seen brake fluid that was black after sitting for the winter and the car had less than 2000km since the last change. Cheaper to change the fluid than repair the car!

Does anyone know the boiling point of the Ferrari brake fluid?
Is it good stuff like ATE Super Blue... or is it lesser stuff?

Why do I ask? Coming into the fastest corner at the track today, I suddenly had very mushy brakes... I managed to keep it on the track... though pointed the opposite direction.
