Tako, it has been out for a little over a month and I have them in stock. I have a friend in Japan which I sent one over there to be installed in a Suburban, it took almost 3 weeks for them to figure how to install it after going back and forth faxing diagrams to each other. The end result of course superb over any remote operated alarm system. And to answer your question Jack, any alarm system is just a deterrent at different levels and some are mostly used for convenience, I like keyless entry so I don't have to jumble around a bunch of keys taking a chance of scratching the paint off the car. If a thief really wants your car it's gonna get towed away, and lowjack can be bypassed before the car can be found so that ends superior anti theft. A good car thief will know all the loopholes regardless, it's the inexperienced ones that don't know how it's done as most of here has witnessed in the pass. The Compustar is unlike most wannabe 2 way fm systems as you can see the alarm speaks for itself. If your car is messed with and you have valuables in your car that the insurance company can't replace, or when your car alarm goes off who really listens or care? The remote can be used as a car finder or from the car, a keyfinder. It would take much time to explain the benefits of this particular alarm system which I have yet to see anything else out in the world to come close to. You really want to know more then email me. If you don't really see a need for an alarm system at least get keyless entry, now that is a must on every car.

Modman, what is the primary purpose of that system? Is it more of a deterrent, theft locator or scare-the-hell-out-of-the-thief setup? Just curious.

I have a security system installed by myself since this is part of my business. My 348 has a security system that never gave me problems, if you experience problems with a security system in your car it's because it was not installed properly. A security system is just as reliable as the electronics in your car. I am currently using a Compustar- look at www.compustar.org to check out this type of system. Sorry Bruce I have to disagree with you since I would have more knowledge on this topic. There is a lot more involved in installing a security system than just connecting wires and that is why problems happen. Things like proper connections, using proper diodes on inputs, using relays with spike suppressors, and so on. I know most installers don't have the qualification to install properly from my experience looking under dashes. I thought it was installed from the Ferrari factory because it looked like spaghetti! J/K but I have seen wiring that looked so bad that it looked like a rats nest. I can understand why some would not want a security system and it's because the majority of the time it's due to bad installs. Having to installed literally thousands of security systems I have yet to see any major problems. Usually just impact sensor adjustments on some of the less expensive systems but that's about it. Never a problem with a car not starting or any vehicle electrical problems but the reason for such reliability again is due to proper installation. I wouldn't be driving what I drive if I wasn't good at what I do you know what I mean. Peace and knowledge to ya all...

What about Lo-Jack, instead. I don't know where you live, but here activated car alarms are more or less part of the background din of the city. They go completely ignored. Obviously, they do little if anything to avert the smash-and-grab thief. And any professional car thief worth his mustard, especially one targeting high-end cars, will know how to neutralize most alarms. Especially one that's not too complicated, as you requested. I'm not sure, but I believe location devices such as Lo-Jack are pretty non-invasive to the car, and have a high recovery rate.

The previous owner of my 308 had an alarm system installed at one point. Apparently, he must have had the same problems as Bruce because it has long since been disconnected (only the tell-tale wires, etc. remain).

I am looking for a not-too-complicated alarm for my 348. Something that wont go off everytime a heavy vehicle passes by and won't screw up the sensitive electronics of the car.

Any suggestions/personal experiences.
