SHAME ON ME!! I should have done more research before I open my mouth. Thank you for the correction. I wouldn't consider a 365gt4 BB modern. I guess in my mind I would consider cars under 20 years old as classic. You are absolutely right the 400&412 are modern cars with the per cylinder designation.

Terry, the 365GT4BB , 400 and 412 also used the cc per cylinder model designation although I don't know if you would consider them "modern"..

Harlan,
The 456 is cc per cylinder it has the same displacement as the 550 5.5 liters. the 360 is a 3.6 liter displacement. The rest I think has been explained. Ernie is correct on the 355. Most of the older street cars Pre-70s use the cc per cylinder method until the 206 which they changed probably because it was marketed by Fiat. The 308 was the first production street "Ferrari" that deviated from this method and the reason I think this was done was to avoid confusion, because using the cc per cylinder method it would be a 365 and that would confuse those familiar with the Daytona, Boxer etc. For some reason this new method of identifing the displacement continued until the 456. I could be wrong, but I think the 456 is the only modern era Ferrari to use the old method. Please correct anything that I am mistaken about.

360 is 3.6L. They would have made it 365 for 3.6L 5valve, but as you know there already was a 365, actually several.

Harlan I know the 348 was a 3.4 liter V8, and for the 355 it was a 3.5 liter 5 valves. The 360 not sure of.

"And here's the new F Enzo." Hopefully the Italians realize that it sounds more like they're trying to say screw you to the old man than honor him.

Harlan,

Regarding the displacement issue to model number.... the older Ferraris had their model numbers for the cc's per cylinder(example: 250 GTO= 250cc x 12= 3.0 litre V12 engine) I believe they changed over to the model number equals total engine displacement starting with the 206 Dino(2-litre,6 cylinder) There's still lots of variations though.... look at the modern 456GT, it's back to cc's x 12 again... 5.5 litre.

"Hey, what kind of car you drive?"

"I have an Enzo."

Somehow I just don't think that works. But then again, maybe Dino was weird before we got used to it?

Rumor has it that it may be called either "F55" as it is the 55th Anniversary or "Enzo."

Harlan is right; if they go with that scheme what will it be? I hear it *may* be a 10 like the F1 car....It will be like 6 liters? So will it be an F610? sounds like a Datsun! We should start a contest!

308 isn't based on displacement is it? I thought it was 3.0 v8 was 308 and 3.2 v8 was 328, same for 348. Was I incorrect in my thinking? 512 was 5.0 v12 wasn't it? 355, 360, 550, and 456 are displacement right? Now I'm starting to doubt myself on these. How about the older cars where they displacemnt like the 166,250? Boxer was I think wasn't it with 512 like the tr and 512tr. Someone set me clear on this one please.

Why don't they just call it the Fiorano?

Last I heard it won't be called an F60. FX is one name they're throwing around in Modena but it seems it may end up with the engine displacement as the number like the 308/328 etc. were named and maybe some letters like GTO or something. But F60 will be unlikely according to the 'spies'.

Isn't Ferrari getting a little ahead of themselves regarding releasing this car. I would think that since the F50 was roughly the 50th anniversary (95-97 cars) that they would stick with this and wait a couple years for the F60. But I guess you could look at the F40 and the F50 had like 5 years between them so this one would be due. Still though. If BMW is gonna produce a car with no cams, I wonder how long it will be til Ferrari does this. Damn, cars are getting ridiculously high tech ridiculously fast.

Ok, I will answer my own question. I looked it up last night, and the official debut is at the Geneva auto show in early March.

I seem to recall reading at one point that the F60 will debut at a European auto show sometime in March.... but can't remember the details.

Does anyone know when and where? I saw the prototype on the road while in Maranello back in September. Oh wow what a sound!

Thanks.
