Great looking car! I note that the door panels appear to be pleated. My 1994 348 Spider does not have those pleats. Is that a non-U.S.A. option or was it on all earlier 348s or what ? |

Folks, more pics for everyone's enjoyment. Martin-the cats appear to still be intact as evidence by the pic and oxygen sensor, however, there is a disconnected plug in the same pic, my mechanic said they do this to all the ferraris to improve the performance. I'm still not sure what the plug is for, think it may be for a sensor to adjust the mixture. I do smell quite a lot of exhaust whenever I have the windows down, not sure if normal or because the car is running too rich. I got crappy mileage on my first tankful, about 170 miles, although those were extremely hard driven miles, still sucks though since it cost me US$108 to fill the tank. Ernie, all stickers, no real shields, came that way. The center console plate was repainted in black. This is a very nice solution to the rubber melting problem. It looks perfect. Just hanging around on a Hong Kong Street
cats with oxygen sensor, disconnected plug
Glowing cockpit with original red "348 TB" mats
Repainted console
front driver side factory carpet cutout for rollcage mounting points (I think)
rear driver side
Couldn't help myself, saw a TS in a parking garage so snap this pic, my car is on the left
91 TS, the exact car that first got me to want to buy a ferrari, I almost bought this one
94 GTS I turned down for my 91 TB

Welcome to the 348 family. Even though the cars are now a decade old they still look very modern. Yours looks especially well with the paint all the way down. It gives the car a more agressive look. Hope you have lots of fun with it, I'm very happy with mine. The emblem on the left rear of the car, is that a sicker? I also noticed something on the top of the engine cover under the "Ferrari". |

The later model 348s all have a lower gear ratio, 2.7 ECU and a less restrictive exhaust that is the same on the Challenge cars. So the performance should be the same . But, the cats used by Ferrari then were terrible and often clogged up which cuts performance especially in low mileage cars. |

There is definitely a performance difference between this Challenge car and the stock 91 & 94 ones I test drove. This car revs much more freely and the exhaust sounds much much better. Whereas the stock cars sounded very muted and lacking in power on the lower end, this car is instantly responsive and quite fast. My initial reaction while test driving the stock cars were that they were not that fast and sounded quite un-ferrari like from within the cabin. I would say that the Challenge version is quite comparable to the 355s in terms of power and performance. The other cars were definitely not beaters. Are there any other Challenge owner who can provide some feedback on their cars? |

Chris, how does this car compare to the one you were test driving before? What difference do you see? Do you believe that this is due to the other car being a "beater"?

I actually love the fact that the car is much more "edgy" than the 355 or 360s. Since it's a more challenging car to drive it delivers a true "raw" sportscar feel. It reminds me of how I preferred the original air cooled 911 carrera over the current water cooled 996. I was actally able to induce a power slide while carving the curvy narrow roads on the south side of HK, something I couldn't do with the NSX or 911. The most rewarding factor is knowing how much car I got for less than USD45K. I'm looking forward to joining HK's "morning drive" where a bunch of exotic car (mainly ferrari) owners meet up on Sunday morning at 6am (this is the shift change hour so less chance of encountering law enforcement) for a romp through HK's outer territories at triple digit speeds. Thanks for the compliments. |

Chris - yours is a beautiful car. You will find that 348 owners are a very loyal bunch and that there are many 348 haters out there. More so than for any other modern F-car. I love 348's! |

Welcome to the 'Dark Side'. You've come to the realization, as most of the 348 owners on this board, that the 348 is one awesome machine and can hold its own with other f-cars. Congratulations and welcome to the 348 family. It's a beautiful car...enjoy every moment. |

I took the plunge and bought my first Ferrari in Hong Kong. It's a 91 348 TB Challenge model (rhd UK car). It has the factory Challenge exhaust, ECU/chip good for 320 hp and larger rear wheels with original 17,000 miles. It is the best sportscar I have ever owned. I am very impressed by how it handles flatly with zero body roll. It does not get any better than this...... I attached some pics for everyone's kind enjoyment. My new 348 and outgoing 91 NSX.....
Front view....
The 348 ready to rumble....
A very red ride.....
It says "Challenge" me.....
