Matt,

Welcome to BMWCCA "land". Been a member for nearly ten years and about two years ago I quit going to their track events. They treat their students like children and tech inspection has always been a joke.

My particular region are a bunch of saftey NAZI's on the track and if you make the slightest mistake you get scolded. A year ago I passed someone in the braking zone and they made me sit out the session and told me that another infraction and I was done for the weekend.

My region is made up of instructors who mainly teach driving schools and auto cross. They really look down on any one with racing experience or someone who drives aggressively.

FOc event at the Glen was a blast, check your email.

Regards,

Jon

What were you driving? Some of these guys really shouldn't be tech's. Same thing happened to me at the 1/4 mile track outside of Toronto. They just gave a quick glance and sent me off, no bolt torque, no oil leak, no saftey equipement check. My helmet wasn't even SA rated, only DOT!

Ok, I need to vent a little, and I will try to make it as short as possible. I went to a BMW track event at Lime Rock this past Monday and Tuesday, volunteering my services as an instructor. I was told that I was 10 minutes late to have my car teched. As I was never informed that tech closed at 8:00, I informed them of such, and also informed them that I was there to help them with their driving school.
Long story short, I missed my first of 4 run sessions. When the 'chief technical inspector' looked at my car, he did the following: 1. Checked my brake lights (good). 2. Did not know where the motor was located, front or rear. Looked at the 'top' of my motor (not sure what he thought he was going to see from above). 3. Proceeded to shake my wheels to check my wheel bearings. Note: the car was not raised off the ground, as well as the fact that my rear deck lid was open. I have no rear deck shocks, and only prop it open with a thin aluminum tube. When he shook my car, the rear deck lid could have slammed shut if the tube broke from the swaying. Checking for a bad wheel bearing while the car is on the ground?? I asked if he minded if I closed the deck lid. 4. Did not know how to open the door (and he belives to know enough to tech my car).

That was the tech inspection.....he did not check to see if my wheels were torqued correctly (which I intentionally left only hand tightened to see if he would catch that), or my brake fluid level in the master cylinder, or even look under the car at the motor to see if there are any leaks of note.

Will somebody please tell me why people are like this?? I am there to help, and all I get is a swift kick in the ba*ls.

You can imagine that I will never help at their events again.
