If someone would like to send me their cat, I will begin manufacturing them to exact spec out of stainless, TIG welded. I know I can make them for far less than the sellers mentioned... any person who sends their cat to me will get a set free(first one for each model car), just pay the freight.
Thanks
Erik

I agree here a 100% with Frank there is not that much of a difference that you can notice in the cabin when driving unless you are on the throttle hard. I really could tell the difference but everyone else that has ridden in the car or heard it go by at normal RPM's never noticed it. The only time the neighbors ever get mad is if I go up the street in first at like 6000RPM's :0) I wouldnt worry about it at all Martin if you love Ferraris you will love the new sound with the cats off everyone else I think will hardly notice

Martin, the test pipes make the car louder, but not that much. In fact, my wife hasn't even noticed the increase in sound at all.

Talked to Tino yessterday. Nice guy. Very helpful. Tino, if I ever put a Tubi on my car, you will have that order on your desk!
Tino will get me a price later today.

As far as a machine shop, I had that option already discussed with my mechanic and he says that to do it right he would like to have the flanges of the original CAT, which means cutting them off and that is really not an option.

I have been very happy with Koenig myself. They had sent me my spacers and they went in perfect. Crap, a friend of mine just came back from Munich, he could have picked them up.

How would you rate the noice compared to the original? Much much louder? A tad would be nice but I do not want to wake the neighbors at 2am in the morning.

It is my understanding that cats are designed to reduce CO, HC, VOC and NOx gases which are all ordorless and colorless. So , I would check the ECU mixture and look for an exhaust leak if I were you.

Thats interesting Frank...I've noticed on my previous ZR-1 that when removing the cats the exhaust had a much stronger smell as well. I know that the exhaust is still coming out the same tail pipes but it just seems to be stronger than before. I mean after all the job of the cats is to remove compounds from the exhaust fumes...all these fumes now are coming out the back and that is what I am smelling I think. Might be a good call on the car running lean I will have to check out the actual ECU info to see if I am or not. There is no exhaust leak at least that I know of :0)

John, if you smell gas that strong you must have an exhaust leak or the car is running too rich. The exhaust should still be coming out of the same tail pipes as it does before the cats are removed. I have had test pipes on a 328, TR and my current 348 and did not notice any difference in the exhaust smell. Only the power and sound went up. And that includes some driving in Atlanta traffic !

Most places are going to charge you near what Koenig will to make a set for you to exact specs. So if I was you I would just order from Koenig much better value than Tubi

Martin I got mine from Koenig and they were reasonable $500 with shipping and handling from Germany. They went in really easy and look great...I dont know how much city driving you do but man you can really smell the exhaust when you have to sit in traffic for a while!! i picked my friend up from the airport the other day and had to creep through some traffic and the whole cabin fills with the nice smell of burnt gas. Doesnt bother me one bit just wanted to make you aware of it! Be careful getting them from just any machine shop because if they dont get the bend right and have the nuts for the O2 sensor and temp sensor they like to rust.

Any muffler shop shop can make them if you will give them your cats to measure as a pattern. Its just 2 pieces of pipe with two threaded holds each for the 02 sensor and thermal coupler. You want to make sure they have a mandrel bender for the best flow. Be sure you tell them its for an off road vehicle.

Martin,

I talked to Joe Fabiani at Fabspeed Motorsports in Ambler, Pennsylvania. He said he could do if you give him a pattern of the flanges (tracing) and length of pipe needed. He said taking your existing cats off and using them as a guide or pattern, will help you determine the proper length and configuration. Anyway, his number is 215 646-4945 and their website is :http://www.fabspeed.com/catbypass.html

His cat-bypass pipe prices on Pcars are very reasonable.

Guys,
We do not sell cat-bypass pipes for street use under any circumstances. Tubi has from time to time made them available strictly for race car set-ups and dyno testing. It is untrue that we will only sell them with a Tubi exhaust.

They were asking, if I remember correctly, nearly $700. This was for Tubi equipment. I think Koenig might be a little cheaper. I didn't want to spend any more than $3-400. Hope this helps.

Martin...I spoke with Tino last week regarding this. He has a bunch of them in stock, for track use of course ;-). Anyhow, the price was a bit on the high side for me for a set of pipes.

I placed a 'Test Pipes wanted" ad in the Ferrari Market Letter and had numerous calls from people who had them for sale. I ended up buying them from a guy in Texas for $300.00. TRutlands, 770.493.8852 got them for my 328 and TR so I'm sure he can get them for a 348 too. Give him a call.

I was told that Tubi does not sell them unless you order a Tubi exhaust as well.
