I paid just over $300 for the badges but they are the real badges. IMHO i think they are well worth it and not to expensive considering what the dealer wants for the same badges.

Dave, have you seen the un-recessed badges in person, or just photos?
Sorry to be so hard on you, I'm just guessing that you've only seen photos.
Also 99.999% of cars on the road have identification badges that are not recessed into a body panel. Just never heard someone say that a badge has to be recessed or it looks like crap. Keep in mind it only is standing off the cars body 3/32 of an inch.

Hi Dave, your right, everybody is entitled to thier own opinions. Once in a while I'll see somebody wearing something I dont find very attractive. But I have never had the inclination to go up to that person and tell them how I felt. Guess I just dont like to make people feel bad???? Also I might be that 1 buthole who has a negative opinion while there are 99 other people who love what I hate.
Eli you've seen both badges in person, probably not too many people can say that. If you say there's not much of a difference between the two, you are the man.
Are those badges expensive? What one man thinks is alot of cash for something is a drop in the bucket for the next.

ELI, never said I dont like them! I love them, but when they are recessed i.e. factory fitted (preferable) or recessed after by a bodyshop (still fine).

...if you could get someone to do it exceptionally well and match the paint to be absolute bang on (pretty unlikely in my 'bodyshop' experience.

Dave, I do agree with you that everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you don't like them that's fine.

Martin, My uncle has the recessed shield and comparing it to mine it is almost not noticebale.

I love mine and get compliments on them almost daily. I guess whatever rocks your boat. good luck.

Nick, your entitled to your own opinion, me mine, I still say it looks a bodge. Which is surely a rediculous result having fronted up so much cash to get the damned shields.

Luckily all is not lost and they come off easily if someone in the future doesnt want them on there. Only bugger is if the car is red (pretty likely for an F car) the paint around the shield will have faded so it is pretty well irreversible without other associated action.

How about that turn signal on Eli's car? (below the badge) that's not recessed, how come the factory didnt recess it? Looks OK, doesnt it? Hmmmmmm.

I think they look great too. Recessed or not.
We are talking about a recess of about 3/32 of an inch, give me a break. Kinda picky, IMHO. If they came without the recess (from the factory) certain people (ehem) would love them.
How 'bout some of the other emblems on the cars that arent recessed? Are you taking those off of your cars 'cause they dont look quite right? Just curious.

Agree with Willis, if not recessed they look non standard, as if somebody just stuck them on....funnily enough thats exactly what they did do!

Lot of money for something that looks so aftermarket IMHO....unless recessed of course, in which case they look the dogs do da's.

It doesn't look right when the shields are not recessed like the factory option. IMHO

The prancing horse shown on the emblem was the logo of a famous italian fighter pilot of the first world war. His name was Francesco Baracca. He was a hero in Italy then and of course died in that war. Francescos mother dedicated the emblem to Enzo Ferrari by saying it will bring him and his cars luck when he puts it on them. Historian though say that the emblem was the logo of the fighter sqadron Baracca flew for and not his individual logo.

If I remember correctly, Enzo's favorite pilot that fought in the war had the prancing horse painted on his plane.

Of course, sorry - I believe it translates roughly to something meaning, Stables of Ferrari.

There's a very interesting story behind the origin of the horse and emblem, though I can't remember it exactly and all the names, but perhaps someone can help...(fighter pilots, horses on plane, Enzo, etc... anyone?)

One question, what does "SF" mean on the shield?
