Wouldn't be surprised if there is a lightweight, de-contended, street-legal Challenge Car type of 360 in the offing, too. Think Porsche GT-3 competitor. Bet they'll sell a few if this does, in fact, come to pass. A 575 of similar concept would be a also be a good one, IMO. Though have heard no rumors of this, yet. |

Art, The 360 replacement will likely be about two years behind the launch of the 575M if they are keeping the same life cycle for the 360 as they did for the 550. I'd expect it to debut in 2004 as a 2005 model. Unless they're feeling like the 360's 400 HP is fading faster relative to competition than the 550's 485 HP did. |

The new 360 is about to come out in 03. It's a 380 or 400, same basic car just a slightly bigger engine with a little more power. At least that's what I heard from someone who should know. Art |

What bothers me is the testosterone talk about horsepower.......there are so many other variables - power/weight ratio.......power in a straight line??? or in a corner - because then, my dear einsteins, you need suspension I taught better driving in a NEON rather than a VIPER .....it's all perception well - back to work here - just my 2 cents after a busy day |

"I heard the new C-6 Covette will have base HP of 400 and ZO6 will have 425 to 450 and maybe in the future a 12 cylinder whats this world coming too." -John Biscsak ------ John, the new C6 should be a 6.3L OHV V8 w/ 450bhp, with around 2800-900lb. Should be killer. I'm sure the new C6 will be at least 400bhp and weight 3000lb. or less. Sould put it in SRT-10 territory. |

i wasn't inferring a brand new replacement for the modena, just some revsions to the current vehicle to keep up with the pack. i.e. 4.2 liters, launch control F1 (as in the 575M). what say thee??? |

Guys, your favorite auto writers often do freelance work for the car companies they review--and they are paid well in excess of the going rate to do so.

James--That's a great point you bring up. Unlike the other forms of media, I tend to (naively, I'll admit) assume that the auto writers have no agenda. Far be it from them to kiss the hand that butters their bread, right? |

By the time the C6 Corvettes and the new NSX comes out, a 360 successor (in 2005?) will probably show up also. It's not like Ferrari will sit still with what they've got now. I'm sure they're well aware of the competitions. It's funny how everything from highly modded cars to future models with rumored specs are being compared to the current 360 Modena. Ferrari must be doing something right. |

I agree with Martin. The new NSX is coming out very soon and it is going to have a V8 motor. Honda always manages to squeeze out gobs of power from their engines (even though it is usually peak hp and not throughout the whole powerband) and Ferrari will have to make sure that it has a solid contender. Rumour has it that the next NSX will have close to 500hp. Hopefully they have some low end torque as well. As much as the major car magazines love the 360 for what it is, they also love the NSX and Honda does a lot of advertising with them. Don't be surprised when R&T and C&D start rating the new NSX as the car to have. |

The way this hp race is going it looks like the 360 replacement ('06??) will have to have a minimum of 450hp imo. |

It's gotta stop sooner or later. History shows that mega-horsepower wars draw the wrath of insurance companies and federal regulators. It becomes a problem for us when the cars built for the masses (which includes Corvettes as well as rice rockets) draw attention to the rest of the auto world. Ferrari, Lambo, et al are used as examples of why regulations are needed, regardless of the fact that relatively few of them are available and most are bought by accomplished, responsible drivers. Be careful of what you ask for. |

it seems like 500 is the magic number (new viper, lambo stella) can the modena remain at a humble 400 bhp??? |
