Would bad wires result in selective dropout like that? I just got back from a drive, mostly highway speed, and had no problem. Actually Magoo, I was hoping I could get some plugs from Ferrari with little Cavallinos on them. You know. About $250 a set? Thanks a lot gentlemen. |

I agree with Brian. This has happened to my 328 twice and both times it was a spark plug extender. Were they replaced at the service? If not you should replace them all ($20 each). The black ones are the updated ones. Red are old. Dan |

I will bet that you can find one or more bad plug wire extender. Check them carefully looking inside for arcing or burning. They sometimes burn right through, that's easy to spot. |

Thanks Joe. That inner voice is telling me it's either a fuel cap or a moisture issue. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking! I'll check it out. |

Jack, Check all your electrical connections to include: 1. Ignition wires and especially the coil wires to make sure they are seated and insulated. Spray some silicon on where they connect. It keeps moisture out of components. 2. ECM connectors. 3. Any wires that may be hanging loose. Loosen and lube with white lithium grease and then re-tighten any ground wires in the motor bay. 4. Make sure the gas filler cap is tight (sealing). 5. Check any connections on the fuel distributor like the EMAs (Electro-Magnetic-Actuators) and air sensor. 6. The thermal time switch and temperature sensor on the water-cooling thermostat housing. I am sure I will think of something else but that is it for now. Good luck, Joe

Lately I've been experiencing an occasional sputtering with my 328. It tends to arise during stop-go driving, with no drop out showing up at constant speed. My 30K service was done recently, and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or if there was a suggestion about what to check. I tried an injector cleaner, but that didn't do anything. Any ideas? |
