It would be 3 letters for big board and 4 for nasdaq.

I see the new ticker symbol "HOTCAR" :-) okay - too many letters Probably just have to be "FER"

For an investment, it would be a poor one. However, I would buy some shares just to frame and hang the certificate in my office.

Agree on the HDI sell, except IMHO I would just lighten up.....sell 50% or so and lock in some profit....HD will not just keep going up forever, and the chart is not looking all that good right now. I would not buy or short it right now but if I had to do one or the other I would lean toward short selling HDI....again just my opinion.

Tenny:

Harley has been more than decent. Bought $500.00 worth in the 80s, now worth almost 100k.

I think Ferrari is deiversifying their company by purchasing Maserati so they can expand their line into less expensive markets as well as 4 drs, an SUV, whatever else strikes their fancy. Then there is the new Ferrari store franchises, similair to the Harley Davidson stores which should pull in more $. Ferrari Knows F1 & they can get more sponsorship $ if they need it. I think with Maserati & the stores Ferrari can stand alone. I imagine HD has made a ton of $ on the stores as well. I'll probably buy 100 shares, maybe 1,000 if the price is right

Harley's been a pretty decent stock, Art. Ferrari might be similar (sans Maserati, IMO) in that their product is pretty much the only game in town for a select customer base. Could be an equally reliable play and agree with those that say it might be fun to own a bit.

Just make sure if you buy Ferrari stock to get your shares issued with a stock certificate...then at least no one can short your shares, you have something to hang on your wall, and you can sell the cert. on E-bay if the price tanks into the penney stuff!

HOW DOES THIS SOUND "FERRARI". ANYBODY WITH A VIN# REGISTERED IN THEIR NAME SHOULD BE OFFERED 1000 SHARES BEFORE THE IPO!

I bought a little Harley when it went public. Made a little money. I'll buy Ferrari when it is available.

I would buy 1 share - just for grins. Kinda of like owning 1 share of the Green Bay Packers (I am from Wisconsin).

I doubt if Ferrari stock would be a very good investment long term.

You are right Martin about only the heavy hitters getting in on an IPO. A good rule of them also is to wait 6 months after a company has gone public to buy it.

If you can get it at the ipo price it means the "street" thinks it's a loser. If you can't get it at the ipo price it means it will get expensive after day one.Usually only the heavy hitters can get in on the ground floor for the winners.

Tim, if you don't find losing money fun, then you haven't been to Vegas my man. I wasn't implying that I enjoy losing money, or that I make a habit of it. It would simply be fun to own a few shares.

To quote Warren Buffet never invest in anything you don't understand in that case people on this board would be more qualified than the average investor to buy Ferrari stock.

I would. But not to make money. Just to own part of it. Only enough shares to justify the brokerage fee.

I almost bought stock when CART went public.
It was the go-go 90's and it looked like a golden goose. Very Glamorious, but I'm glad I didn't. Mixing hobbies and business is always tempting.

Who knows what Ferrari Stock could do? A company that is always sold out years ahead of time, should be a no brainer. But then when you think that the business model was set up to support its expensive racing program??? Is that in the best interest of the stock holders?

Does Ferrari charge enough for their new cars? 300 F60's at $400k I bet they could get more?

These are just a few questions that a public company would have to answer.

Mr.Gillete (of disposable razors, blades etc fame) was once asked (now remember this was a billonaire with a lot of iq) what he though about the stock markets and he replied "stocks I dont know but half the worlds population growing hair on it's face everynight I understand".
I'll drive the cars and let the bean counters do their thing.
