The html code is incredibly verbose: general discussion page size seems to be more than 400K... it's nice to have broadband as user, but do you have to pay for hosting according to traffic volume?

Thanks Val. I work with Val and she gave me a Ferrari Barbie for Christmas. It's sitting on my desk along with all my models. No one better even think about taking it.

It's a bit slow to load on my machine, too, but no big. I prefer the new format and it's still simple to navigate. Good one.

The new upgrade is slower and I am working on it with the company.

You will show as a rookie and it will take a little before the levels will apply. I don't want to ruin the fun, but it goes rookie, karting, formula ford, F3, ???

Everyone will figure it out soon enough.

I have the same issue as a few others - very slow loading! Is this related to the new format or is it due to a problem on my end? (I'm running on 10.0 Mbps/DSL)

Otherwise - nice! Change, thought not always easy - is a good thing!!

I think I was used to the old format I guess, because I thought it was just fine and was a little more easily read.

My concern is that this new format seems to be significantly slower than the old one. I tried it at home on my windows 3.1 machine and at work on my windows 95 machine. The site seems to be much slower than before.

With the red lettering I can't tell which topic I look at last and if someone has added a new post to this. Is anyone else having trouble with this? I could tell with the blue.

I am also having a problem with the posting info. too large for my screen, no matter if I minimize the size or not. I also have to scroll Rt. to Lt. to get the entire post. I didn't think it was that way last night. When I finally got on everything seemed to be OK.

On one of my posts below (number 270) I'm a rookie, on the very next post (#271) I'm into carting. Maybe 270 is the break? Looks great Rob!

OK, I'm a happy camper, now that I found the Search for posts since I last Searched feature!

And I actually figured out how to post a pic, too.- Goota short attention span, dontcha know. Just never took the time to understand the old process.

Thanks for your hard work Rob. This looks great, and I know will just keep getting better as you put in the time.

Now, when and how do people get to graduate from being "Rookies"?

The left-right scroll would be the only complaint I have. The old version would 'compact' the text into whatever window size I chose. It isn't always prudent to have a large "Ferrarichat" window open!

The home page and some of the threads do not fit my screen without scrolling right to left. The Home page on the old format did not fit either. The password memory does not work anymore either.

Whoa! go away for a couple days and come back to "someone messed with FerrariChat".

I find this layout much cleaner and elegant. It holds much promise.

But, and this is a big one for me: I found the View New Posts feature to be the single most important feature that made weeding through the volume of traffic possible. I'll not lurk on this board for long without it.

I found the expanded tree view of only those threads with new messages to be incredibly efficient for quickly wading through the chaff, and identifying the meat I was looking for.

Or, cut down on the off-topic noise..Yeah, right, that'll happen:-)

Keep up the good work!

Great new format Rob, thanks for all of your efforts.

Like my cognitive powers lately however, things are slower.......seems to take ages to get back to the topics page. Might just be my server.

I haven't found "New Posts" yet, but that was my favorite too.

I know you can edit, but I haven't found it yet.

I just switched our ancient "flat file" db to a relational db, so hopefully this will eliminate some of our problems.

Please post bugs or questions in the topic below on the main page.

Thanks

Looks good Rob.

Anyway to implement a feature like "View New Posts" since last visit? Or it already exists, where can I find it. I use vbulletin on one of the boards I run and that is the most used feature.

Thanks,

Good job, but there's something wierd in the profiles. Here's Rob's for example:

Hair Color: 1986 328gts
Eye Color: 1966 275 GTB/4
Pets: Club Racing, Autocross, Triathlons, Hunting, Fishing, Happy Hour
Music Preferences: 1993 BMW 325is, 2001 Toyota Tundra, 1983 Mazda RX7 race car

I'm guessing those fieldnames should just be updated (somehow).

Other than that, it looks fine

New format is a little slower to load and doesn't fit on my 17" monitor, has a slide bar on the bottom, old one fit OK. Otherwise I prefer the layout to the old one. Nice work.

Here's my to do list...

1) Get the banner ad display to work.
2) Move the banner ad and FerrariChat.com images up to the very top and what's on top now to right above the topics.
3) Fix up the menu bar for FerrariChat.com links, also add a menu bar and way to easily return to the board after going to those pages.
4) Clean up the bottom menu bar.
5) Add the hit counter back to the bottom.
6) Convert the current flat database to MySQL relational so we won't have any problems with user ids going missing.
7) Bring back the custom profile fields.
8) Make sure all the new functionality works like the automated password reminder (thank goodness, I've been doing about 6 password resets a day).

...and more and more and more.

It's fun, I'll also create a topic for bug reports and suggestions.

Jay, I decided awhile back that's it's better to display the newest messages first. I know this is different than most boards, but I think it's the best. I don't want to scroll down to the bottom every time I visit a thread I've already read before. All I care about is the newest threads. However, I will see if this can be customized from individual users, but i don't think so.

looks good Rob, alot of hard work. One question. Is it possible to view threads from oldest to newest rather than newest to oldest? sometimes I find myself reading down and then having to scroll up for the next reply. I didn't see this choice in the preferences.

I just upgraded the message board. It will take a few hours for me to get some of the old links and the new design implemented.

Once it's complete, I think you'll like the new design and functionality.

Please report any bugs to me.

Thanks,
