what is typically replaced are sidemarker lights, speedo, OBD 2 connection, a tune up is done, and some other minor crap. what costs the most is the time and paperwork to verify that the car has every thing, and the car must still be tested for emmissions. Worst of all there is a Monopoly of sorts for people doing this work so the prices are still high.

What precisely is replaced/ converted when a model is imported? I am frankly shocked by the costs.
Bumpers? Seatbelts? Emission garbage? Lights/lenses? Radio?

Hey Leo,
The most important thing about a conversion, as it was explain by my knowledgeable friend at Ameristar Capital Wholesale, is not so much the price, cause prices are nearly the same every where ($8000 to $12000), but it is the QUALITY OF THE WORK!! The guy that converted my car was not the cheapest, but damn if all the authorized Ferrari dealers that have looked at my converted Euro F355 Spider hadn't said "there is virtually no difference between this Euro spec and the American" I would have been pissed, and they all said that they would be happy to service the car too. But with the help of my friend, in selecting the right company, I paid a little more but the work was done right and I still saved $20,000 to $40,000 on the deal no matter how you look at it. Most of all the car is something I can be proud to own over here in the US, it doesn't look like some lowly bastard child, as some converted cars are apt to look like if the conversion isn't done properly. If you want some more info visit my buddies website that helped me out,

or you can let me if you need more info.
Ciao
Eric

Dickk Fritz, who used to be with NART, & now runs Amerispec which converts euro cars to US specs is the man to talk to. I imagine he'll charge around $25k for a conversion

I had to put 2 Ks on his name or FC.com censures it
