Ben, good point. We have front plates here in B.C. I put my plate on the front because there's already bolts there, so might as well. I've had to many run-ins with the law in the past, so I don't want to disturb the s--- further, so I oblige.

Most people up here with sports cars have trimmed their plates so its just the number, thin and discrete without getting in the way of grills, air-dams etc.

I just had a crazy idea, Jeff, could you make a large sticker that looks like a licence plate? Make it the same size, same lettering fonts, etc... You could make it out of that "Mak-Tak" stuff (the kind used in racing numbering and sponsoring decals, not permanent, won't leave marks on the paint). Just a thought.

In CA it's a fixit ticket, and depending on who does the fixit you may just have to SHOW that you have the front plate (other times you have to SHOW it mounted in place). Most of us have the solution that it gets carried (usually in the cabin, under the seat) in the car so when we get pulled over for it, we just say "it fell off yesterday and I have to go back to the dealer to have them put on a new stupid bracket, but see officer I do have the plate". Contiue with "you see how that front bumper isn't plate friendly well that damn bracket they have just keeps falling off, I keep telling that (they have to find a better way to secure that bracket) to the dealer and they just shrug". Most cops will be nice if you are TRYING to obey the law.

Unfortunately with the lil grill on the TR they don't buy that excuse one bit. On some other cars they do.

Here's a wild idea.....

It looks like you have some space on the front bumper area for a plate. I would pick the spot, form the plate so it fits into that spot as perfectly as possible. Then I would get a certain type of glue and put it there.

The type of glue I'd use is the kind they use when they glue the protective cover over your printed magazine cover for mailing(The one I receive is called "Fine Homebuilding"). I'm not sure where you get it but I know it can be found somewhere because it must have other uses too. If you've never seen it, it's amber, translucent, applied about 1/16" to 1/8" thick and peels off easily but not too easily. It's slightly stretchy like rubber when you pull it. You can get all the remaining amount off by rolling it off with your finger. It seems to be inert and doesn't damage the magazine cover at all. The quickest way to find out what it is may be to ask someone who works in a printing/finishing plant where they bind magazines and ship them.

I didn't have a front plate on my 911 for 10 years in Texas (it does require it) and never got a ticket. Only got asked once and I used the excuse that I bought the car w/o it so didn't know, and got away with it. The other reason that I rarely got stopped could be that I had on one of those catalog plate that read "Porsche" and so it looked as though I do have a front plate.

OK shame on me for mentioning "Porsche" on this site! I have sold it and just got a 348ts so please forgive me :-)))

Maryland not only gives tickets, but also points towards your licence. I know because I got pulled over for that reason.....20 mph in a neighborhood and the dumb--- pulled me over.

Thanks for the input guys. Paul, you are correct. I am screwed. The 360's bumper leaves only 2 choices; drill the 2 holes or go with no plate and risk a ticket. I'll probably go without the plate and hope if I get stopped it will be just a warning. Then I'll put the plate on.

i just looked at a pic of the front end of a 360
what a shame think your screwed
I like either the magnet idea ( if it would work with the bumper ) or the guy that said he just pays the ticket - if you get pulled over you'll probably be speeding anyways - and any cop who pulls you over for the license plate only - is just being a d*ck. Like you really need the license # to identify the car . Hmmmm ferrari 360 in whatever color you have - must be maybe a whole 5 in your state at the most - hard to track that guy down without the front license plate.Plus the other guy said that his Ferrari dealer said that they could throw something together for $170 - well in PA a minimum ticket is $93 - so once you get 2 tickets then deal with it. Ask yourself this - how many tickets will it take to add up to the amount the dealer will take off for 2 drilled holes in the front bumper when you eventually trade up to whatever the new model will be in the future - fill 2 holes repaint front bumper $3k deduct- thats a lot of tickets

Watch out for some of the black straps. If they aren't ultraviolet resistant, they will disintegrate in the sunlight in a short period of time if they are not made for outdoor use.

Yeah I was talking about zip ties, I don't know why I called them strap ties, I guess I just didn't realize I was putting that down. Get the classy black ones to do it, it'll be fast, wont damage anything and will last forever, and most importantly look good.

(Yes we are talking about "cable ties")

"Zap Straps" the same thing? Makes the clicky noise as you tighten it up? Am I retarded to misunderstand this?

JD....I just ran into the same problem in MD. My local Ferrari dealer said they could put something together at around $170. I went to PEP Boys and bought a universal licence plate bracket and attached it to the grill with white plastic ties (ones used for pulling together wires) and have had no problems with the setup. All for around $15!!

Jim and Bret,
Where do I buy these straps? You guys aren't talking about those white/plastic/ties that are used to bind wires are you?

I just used one of these things called strap ties to fix something on my Jeep, they're amazing. Sheer genius. Sometimes I even impress myself.

Theres this new invention called strap ties.On my 328 gts I took a toyota MR2 front plate bracket cut the plate just below the numbers and sand smooth.Plastic stap ties work nicely it sits just below the ferrari emblem in the grille.....

Thanks for the input. Would magnets work for holding the front plate on? Some car dealers use a large/rubber/magnetic frame for the rear when they do test drives. It's ugly I know, but at least I could remove it after driving the car. May be I am being paranoid about drilling holes in the bumper. I just can't remember seeing any Ferraris with a front license plate.

affirmative....here in Chicago we have to have front and back plates. I just fly by the seat of my pants and pay the tickets.

On my 308QV the mount for the license plate is drilled into the front spoiler, but even if you took it off you wouldn't know the holes are there because it is on the top of the spoiler (below the grill and bumper). They probably will have to drill holes, I don't see how else they will be able to attach a plate. They'll do a good job, I'm sure they have done it before. As long as you drill holes that are clean and you use bolts and not self-tapping screws it will be nice looking.

I live in a state that requires a front license plate. My dealer is in a different state that doesn't require a front plate. The dealer has offered to drill holes in the front bumper(360 Modena). Is there a better solution?
