The value should go up Stu. Ive seen a few of these 288 conversions (good ones) going for $50-$70K. Allot of Ferrari owners are very simular to Porsche owners when it comes to modifications to the original body. 80% of them think the cars should left original, and... they are not afraid to tell you that you will ruin your car by modifying it. I have a lot of experience with modified Porsches and have found that once the conversion is done to the car, even the guys that have said they dont like converted cars, LOVE the finished product. IF... it has been done properly.
I think they are so used to seeing crappy conversions that they automaticaly think a rebodied car HAS to be nasty. I have had quit a few very "unique" Porsches and usually have people fighting over the car when I eventually put it up for sale (no kidding). There will probably be a few hundred 308's out there for sale when it comes time to sell your car, most likly yours will be THE ONLY 288 conversion for sale. If the car looks really nice IT WILL SELL, no doubt about it. We all know this. Guys with money want something different. Thats a big reason everybody here has a Ferrari!

How many 308 owners would consider doing this to their car? If the conversion could be done for a reasonable cost, I think I might actually consider it. Is that crazy? Would I completely destroy the value of my car?

I remember those pics, hmm it was either in European Car or Sports Car International. Jim Carpenter of AZ built both

Its been a few days since I scanned these images, but if I remember correctly it was Sportscar International. These were photos from an article on Jim Carpenter and his company Cable Cars in Phoenix Arizona. I think the magazine is about 10 years old. One of my favorites.
