I too love the 288GTO. I have never driven one but I did ride in one at Road Atlanta a few years back. I would take it over an F40 any day of the week. In fact the service manager at Ferrari of Atlanta told me that the 288GTO is a lot more reliable and driver friendly than the F40. Mayby one day I'll poney up the big bucks and buy one. |

I have driven about 150 different Ferraris and I was able to pilot a GTO at Roebling Road several years ago at one of Brian Redmans Targa 66 club meeting. I have a video of it somewhere. The GTO is one of my favorites, and I still to this day cannot believe I drove one. It was so cool. The interior is outrageous! Every speaker in the car has a little yellow GTO emblem on it. That struck me as odd, as I thought all Ferraris did not come here with a stereo. Anyway, I fit in the car just like I fit in my 308, perfectly. Everything in the car seemed to be better than any 308 I had driven. The power is extraordinary, and it handled so nicely. I was surprised at how quiet is actually is inside, at speed. The handling is superb, and tail happiness can be invoked with any stab of the right foot. I guess I could be more vague with my description, but it was really freaking fast, and sounded really cool, although a tad quiet. It was difficult to see out of the awkward side mirrors. I just love the seats in the GTOs. I'm certainly not trying to act like I know a lot about GTOs, I just drove one once. I can tell you that the F40 and GTO and worlds different, not just from a performance aspect. I have a photo of my standing next to the GTO Evolutzione when I was at the factory in 1989. If I can ever figure out how to rip video into a .wav or .mpeg I would post it. |

I, like many others, admire the sexy GTO 288 and never thought about what its like to drive and own. I just assumed its fast and pretty so it must be great. Anybody who has driven or owned please share some stories. Tino's post on the 360 owner thread got me thinking. |
