Good work, Tim!

I fiddled around with the picture to get a better look at the grills. I think they look pretty good.

Willis,

The "Challenge style" front grills made it on several 2000 cars as of September '00 production. It is option GRD2 and lists for $434.

Really? My dealer didn't mention this. I'll ask them about it.

Willis:

Challenge front grills have been offered as a factory option on the 360 road cars since the 2001 model year. Ferrari option/sticker cost is $400.

The Challege front grills were never offered for the road cars. There are aftermarket front grills like the RM Racing ones I'd mentioned.

This is a picture of the normal front grill.

Are you saying that real challenge car grills are different than the ones for road cars?

The front stock grill have large rectangular openings.

There's a nice front grill set by RM Racing that matches the grills in the upper and lower side-intakes. These are basically cross-hatched wires with openings small enough to deflect just about everything.

I've never seen a real Challenge car up close. But from many hi-rez photos I've seen, the real Challenge front grills are a finer mesh with a more complex crossing pattern.

It seems that not many people are familiar with the challenge front grill. Someone looking to buy a 360 who knew alot about ferraris and was an owner didnt know about the front ones. The stock ones do look like the mesh (if you would even call it that) is too open, i could see how debris would get through.

Tim,

I plan to get some Challenge-style front grills later this year. The stock "egg crate" style grills are not very effective in keeping out debris.

Luigi,

Metalic paints are hard to match if you need to make minor scratch or chip repairs. Also, I like the deep, pure black on the 360 shape.

Does anyone know how long it takes to switch from a challenge grille to a regular one? I also dont hear to much talk about the front challenge grilles, does anyone have them? I would guess that those are strictly cosmetic.

Thanks Willis, it looks wonderful as I thought.
Why did you choose the non metallic black?

Willis, would you mind posting a picture of the back of your Modena.
I'm very interested in seeing how well does the challenge grill look on a black car.(my guess is that it's marvellous!)

My 360 came without a challenge grill. I later added one because the heat back there was ubelievable - to the point there all the rear panels and hatch were extrememly hot after long drives. With the grill came a noticeable decrease is engine compartment heat (eg you could not touch the panels because they were warm but not hot) and the temp. gauge is at least 1/8 inch lower. I can definitely state that is makes a difference.

Giving that the Challenge Teams all opted for it I believe it does something. This is only when driving fast at high RPMs and heating up the engine, like track. For most other uses the Challenge grill is likely useless but some like it for looks.

I'd have both. Challenge for track days and the regular for daily driving.

I have the challenge grill on my 360. It adds some extra ventilation.

We have a challenge grill on the rear of our 355 and I think that it does help vent the engine compartment, however I have no proof of this. We ordered this part when we ordered the car and the dealer installed it for us. (My husband's idea.) We also have the standard rear panel, in the event we want to trade them out. I don't see that happening as we also like the look of the grill. When driving on the track I always pop the rear deck upon entering the pits but the I feel the grill helps me on the track. I have never regreted putting this on our car. Hope this helps.

i've seen some talk that the black, perforated, metal rear challenge grills are possibly more than just cosmetic?

can anyone definitively comment on this? do they better ventilate the engine compartment? does it need it? does it help?

tia,
doody.
