OK, Sorry I see you have them on order from Rutlands.

Eric, I thought Ed Gualt said he could tell you where to get them. Try him. I also agree without the targa top on, the cover does flap in the breeze when installed behind the seat.

Someone had mentioned that they purchased a set of tenax fasteners from T.Rutland's -- so, I gave them a call today: they have them (both with black buttons or silver buttons, and both with the Ferrari prancing horse embossed on them). Have 4 of the black ones on the way, plus some other goodies as well -- told you this valentine's day gift was getting out of hand .

I have 1984 308 GTS QV and one of my snaps broke and I got a replacement from my dealer Jack Cauley Ferrari in Detroit.

Thanks Magoo...I placed a call to the dealer regarding the OEM Tenax fasteners. Apparently, FNA and the dealer recently underwent some sort of software changeover / update, so I'll have to wait until Friday for a response as to the availability / price. I have other options in case I don't have any luck with the dealer.

The cover that I purchased is the correct one (repro. though) -- it only lacks the Tenax fasteners.

That's a little disappointing, however, that the cover flaps loudly at highway speed .

My 308 has the orig. vinyl targa cover. It has four Tenax shaps. two on the floor near the seatbelt retractor and two on the upper shelf at the rear window. Looks great, Only problem is when you are driving highway speeds wind causes it to beat, flap, and it creates a distracting noise.

After all the glitches that showed up in the 512TR at Cavallino I think she's asking me for a Spring tune up which she will get before track season starts. I miss my big girl :-)

My 328 GTB just had its 22.5k service at Algar. I was there all day because a routine inspection discovered the source of a fuel smell that Ive been noticing on and off ever since I bought the car. Turns out the crossover pipe between the fuel tanks had a slight leak right near the drain plug. Sometime in my cars life someone tried to repair the aluminum pipe by welding it. Not a good idea. Anyway, the pipe was replaced, along with the two hoses attaching it to the fuel tanks.

I thought I was in for a treat because the rumour at Algar was that the new Maserati was due in that day, but it never showed. Too bad!

I posted some pictures of the snaps on the Technical side under the rear panel trim heading.

I think I have some of the special snaps. They were quite expensive as I recall and I bought them in the event that I had a cover made for my car. I would have to find them as I do not know where I hid them. I think I paid $5.00 each. There is a fellow that sets up a store at the larger auto shows that had them. If you want some I can get some more at the Autofair at Charlotte in a month or so.

Edward: Thanks for the info -- apparently I have purchased the cover that you referred to, because it does indeed have the pocket. There are currently four studs (two on bottom at rear bulkhead and two on top shelf), so it appears that this cover did not come with the necessary snaps installed. Looks like I'll have to track them down next -- boy, this "valentine's gift" is getting bigger by the minute .

The cover that goes behind the seats snaps to the rear panel on the two little studs and the roof slides down into the envelope.

Eric, The guy at Saratoga said he only made about 100 of the tops and had long since destroyed the molds. They sold for $1200 originally. Their website is http://www.saratogatech.com/about.htm

BTW the cover for my top has snaps at all 4 corners.

Frank: From what you're saying, it sounds as if I've purchased the vinyl bag for storage; but that I still need to purchase a vinyl cover (w/ snaps) to hold the targa in place behind the seats -- does this sound right? - sorry to be getting off topic here, by the way.

Now I'm confused. As recall my 328 had a vinyl bag that the targa top fit in that had no snaps as well as a rectangular piece of vinyl that had snaps at the corners to hold the targa top tight against the rear bulkhead. Which are you referring to ?

My 82 GTSi cover does have snaps on it; I think I will buy my car a new battery to replace the one that just died for Valentines.

Frank: Oops, sorry about that -- I posted before reading yours. You mentioned the lack of snaps on your cover -- that would make sense now that I think about it. Apparently, the metal buttons on the rear bulkhead behind the seats are for the leather straps (on the targa) to snap to (?). I've never had the top removed, so this is sort of new to me. Looks like a good excuse to knock off early and go home to check this out .

John: Incredible -- $1650??? That's amazing! I was following the bid initially (while contemplating -- err, I mean, trying to convince my wife that I REALLY needed this to help improve the performance of the 308 -- she didn't buy that either), but sort of lost interest as the price began climbing higher and higher. Had no idea, though, that it sold for that much. Apparently, it is a rare item. Would be very interested in a "group" type effort to have these remanufactured. Perhaps $1650 is a fair price, not sure.

Steve: LOL - I enjoyed that one...seems as if our "better half" has us all figured out! Oh well, it's fun trying to convince ourselves that we've got 'em fooled though, right?

I don't think the cover came with snaps. I know the one on my 328 had no snaps.

Eric -- I had a sort of a similar "Valentine" experience. I asked my bride what she wanted for Valentine's Day, and she said: "Don't worry about it -- you've already bought it." (she's getting smarter as we get older) :-)

Eric, the smoked glass top went for $1650 on ebay. I talked with the guy from Saratoga tops to see if he was going to make any more, but I think he isn't planning anything like that. Maybe if we ganged up on him...

My car doesn't have the vinyl cover either, I just leave the top behind the seat but it would be nice to protect the top and so that when you got above 75-80 it didn't start buffeting a little back there. When I take out my seats and redye them it would be a good chance to replace this cover. Thanks.

Purchased the cover from T.Rutlands for roughly $188. Not to bad a price for a reproduction cover. It is very heavy duty vinyl material (with soft backing) and a slip pocket on one end. There are no snaps or anything so I'm not quite sure how it is supposed to fit -- may end up having to buy some snaps. I'll try it on for size tonight and let you know how well it works.

I sure wish it was, Frank! What I meant to say was that I purchased the vinyl-type soft cover (for when you stow the targa behind the seats). Unfortunately, mine was missing when I purchased the car. Did you see the smoked glass top for sale on E-bay a couple of weeks ago? I was very tempted to buy it (wanted something like $750 or so). Maybe next time .

Is it the smoked glass top you can get for the 308,328,348, and 355s ?

Ordered a targa top cover for the 308 the other day. It just arrived via UPS -- and my wife told me happy valentine's day as she handed me the box . I won't tell her about the other items on back order though .
