I own the loud one. It is a 2000 that I bought used 6 months ago. I'm suspecting the previous owner removed the pre-cat, or maybe Ferrari started including a pre-cat during the year 2000.
Note that I love the way my car sounds. Simply amazing on the track. I unfortunately received my camera mount too late. Next time I'll record and share.

There IS a large difference in exhaust sound between the pre-cat 360s and the early ones - ESPECIALLY regarding the escalation in noise when the exhaust opens up.

Doubt the grill has anything to do with the sound.
My '99 360 euro has a much deeper exhaust sound than the '00-02.Can't explain difference between 2 '00 360's except diff in driving techinique. |

maybe you were driving in high revs and the other was shifting short?
The grill does not have the difference. Maybe a very little but I would doubt that people could here the difference. The noise comes from the exhaust pipes not the muffler piece that is more exposed on the challenge grill.

I took my 360 to Laguna Seca yesterday to attend the local lotus club track event. There was 2 360 at the event including mine. Strangely, according to several people, my 360 was a substantially louder than the other.
I understand that Ferrari added a pre-cat in 2000, but both cars are 2000 360. The only other difference is a challenge grill on my car. Could the grill be the difference?
