where I do these runs at (and I dont do them often) there is a concrete barrier seperating opposite bound traffic. This prevents any law officers from coming the other way and turning around on you. If you wait till the last car passes you and gets 3 mins. ahead you and then take off. It dont take to long to hit 135 mph.In a half mile or so you should be done if you just hit the speed and let up. I wouldnt push car past 135. It will go more but I would hate to blow a 10k motor.I'll tell you when I come of the gas I dont brake and just coast and the way the thing keeps moving along through the air is WOW.But again I would never do these things for REAL.only in my mind.

Bruno - I would be up for doing a top speed banzai run with you sometime. Only AFTER I get the K-40 radar detector installed in my '82 GTSi, sometime in the next week or two. I'll try to persuade my brother into taking his 'Busa out to assist on the certified speed. I also have my attorney on speed dial just in case. My personal record is around 120 + or -. And, of course, I do not condone such reckless behavior...

Hutch yes I run the K&N exclusively. Kelly I will check the speedometer at 5500 next time. I was taching 5800 plus minus 500. I was kind of glued to the road looking at speedo mainly.I would guess you were running close to 125-130 mph.I was running on a down grade on the Pa turnpike NEast extension betweeen the Pocono and lehighton exits headed south. with no wind and no traffic. If it ever stops raining in PA I will get it out there again.I am told 155 is possible in 5th gear and before redline.I havent gotten the manliness up for the job as of yet. I envision a wheel flying off this 25 year old car etc etc etc.

Bruno,
how many RPM were you at? I got my new P4000 tires today, drives like it on rails.

Brought it up to 5500RPM in 5th. Since my Speedomoter just works upto about 95. How fast do you think I was going. I have estimated 120 to 130.

Bruno - Do you normally have a K&N air filter in your 308? I just cleaned and re-oiled mine last weekend. After being in my 82 308i for a year and a half (only 3500 miles), it was pretty dry and dingy. Also, congrats on your speed run!!

if your running without the aircleaners drop a few bucks for a set of velocity stacks makes an unbeleivable difference in both sound and power but be careful you dont get them too close to the fireproofing under the hood or they suck all kinds of stuff in, birds, small mammals etc.

If you guys remove your air box on a older carb. 308 BE "VERY" CAREFUL NOT TO DROP ANY OF THE NUTS OR WASHERS INTO THE VENTURA OF THE CARBS.

For me the sound really picks up at about 120. 100 no big deal but at 120 she really lets you hear her working. I love it. (I have a Tubi and a "test pipe")

Just got done fine tuning carbs in 308 78 gtb. decided to take it up on a remote portion of the PA turnpike for a test. Left the cover off and airfilter out. WOW. Ran up to 135 held for 15 seconds (felt like 5 minutes) The sound was unbeleivable. It had plenty of room to go. Car is stock except for polished competition valve job. This also eclipsed my old public road speed record of 133.
Oh, all disclamers apply and I do not approve of such reckless behavior..
