I remember that article Erich, there was another of a Maserati that got the boot from the Mille Miglia Historica this year because it turned out to be a fake. What I find interesting about this guy's little shpeel is that these kit car guys seem to think it's cool or honorable, something along those lines, to be able to convince people that it's an expensive car. "Don't let them call it as a fake, tell them after they're convinced it's real" type mentality. I for one wouldn't be impressed (or deceived) finding out it's a kit car. |

Michael: I wonder which is worse, the outright fraud to which you are referring or the widely practiced(and seemingly acceptable) fraud of assembling a car from numerous parts cars, installing a new body/interior, but then using an engine that has the right numbers on it and selling it as original or simply "restored." There was an article in Automobile a couple months ago how this practice has lead to three Bugattis all with the same serial number, and all claiming to be original. |

More scary than that are "replica" or fake original cars passed off as real cars with documentation and history, i.e. former race cars and a handfull of jaguars, porsches, and Ferrari classics that duped auction houses and other informed buyers. |

My absolute favorite kit car scam was a company that was "selling" replicas of early ford or chevy trucks. They even had a picture of them complete with casting marks on the side. Yep, they took a photo of a die-cast model and tried to pass it off as real. What's strange is a lot of these bogus companies are created to make money simply from selling their literature and videos. |

well, at least he's honest and says he doesn't think you two are a match for business. legit importer or not - heck, I can even import cars and get them pushed through. of course, they would not be DOT/street approved, but if you wanted one for the track, I can manage that. |

It's kind of funny that his Ferraris come with 10-50 miles when almost all new Ferraris come with close to 85 (remember the Forza when they took the trip in the 550 roughly covering the testing route). I guess his are special. |

There's also some jerk on ebay "selling" 3 360 F1 Spiders that he "has" "in Washington, DC" with "10 miles" on them. I wrote him asking when I could come inspect them and he wrote back: These cars are Factory new and are delivered with 10 to 50 delivery miles. I am a licensed Importer, Wholesaler and Dealer. I am able to aquire 1 to 3 of these every 6 to 8 weeks. I list them several places as soon as I know that I will get them, sometimes I am able to get pictures sometimes not. They all get sold within 7 to 10 days of listing. No offense but you sound like one of those people that is too smart to buy a car from me and should continue your search. -- Roger Snyder President and General Manager Blake Enterprises Automotive Group [email protected] - email ---- [email protected] wrote: > You are listing 3 of these with no pictures and qustionable info. > Do you have these cars in Washington, DC where I can come and inspect > them? I just don't see why each of his auctions are over $230,000 last time I checked!!! Caveat emptor! |

Their web page cracks me up, here are some quotes from it "These gauges display up to 280Mph!" - I guess that makes the car faster. They talk about it like its the top speed of the car or something |

Erich - that's exactly what I was getting at! ugh! One time, a guy was selling an S2000 on ebay. Funny thing was, he was linking it to a picture in the s2ki.com gallery at the time. I just kept changing the images to be wrecked S2000's. The guy apparently got pretty ticked and wanted to throw some lawyers upon us - but that didn't happen. Its our site, its our pictures! Heck, it was hillarious. =) He should have invested in his own camera and taken his own pictures - not link to someone else's picture of a similar/like car and claim it was the same thing. |

You should check out their website, its scary. The ebay ad was just ambiguous as to what you were getting and what it was, but their website claims this is an original design. |

Seems to me, for the high bid, you are only getting the basic shell ! Not very clearly indicated in the auction details. Chassis and running gear, brakes, interior, paint, assembly costs. This car could end up costing 'lucky' owner 50 - 55K. What a bargain! Give me a 512BB any day.

It certainly looks like a production McLaren. A kit car maker using photos of the real car in their advertising-shocking and unprecedented!(sic)Assuming of course they actually make anything at all. |

'Tis actionable under federal and state law as a form of false designation/unfair competition. It is difficult for the manufacturers to police this, but conceivably, a notice from the manufacturer to ebay could result in having the thing removed. ebay has a pretty sophisticated program for dealing with ip violations and the like. |

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1805028447 So, this guy uses actually Lambo and McLaren pictures and expects people to really believe, or rather decieve people into what they are buying? There are 21 bids on this auction right now. |
