I seriously doubt they'll let people open up their cars. Not only for liability/injury reasons, but because they don't want to risk any kind of damage to the track on race day. Plus, with that many people, the potential # of cars participating could be staggering. Might be worth it just to get the VIP parking though. |

They have a communtiy day every year a couple of days before the Indy 500. For $5 dollars you can take a lap around the oval. The thing is they have cops the whole way around and you are only allowed to go like 60mph. That doesn't sound very fun to me. If I am on the track I want to be able to put the pedal down. I wonder if it will be the same on the gran prix track or will they let you open it up a bit. |

I have had two permanent seats per race since the GP started two years ago. Does that count or do you have to have 4 tickets per year? If the pass can be transfered, someone else can have mine if I am eligible as I have no real ambition to drive around the track. |

Definitely sounds like an event for a Ferrari car club... FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE IMS OFFERS EXCLUSIVE "DRIVE AROUND" OPPORTUNITY TO U.S. GRAND PRIX TICKET BUYERS. INDIANAPOLIS, June 13, 2002-The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will offer an exclusive chance to ticket holders for this year's SAP United States Grand Prix to drive their personal cars around the road circuit normally reserved for Formula One drivers. It's all part of a unique day created by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to thank car club members and other race fans who have purchased at least four reserved seat tickets to the SAP United States Grand Prix on September 29. The festivities will take place on Sunday, August 18, when the 13-turn 2.606-mile F1 track will be open from 10 a.m. to noon exclusively for car club members to drive a lap. Car club members will be welcome to park in designated areas and to remain for tailgate parties during the afternoon. Photo areas will be provided for you to pose with your car or by yourself around the historic Speedway. Between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. the road circuit will be opened for other race fans, who have purchased at least four reserved seat tickets for the Grand Prix, to take a lap around in their own cars. For those who want to participate in the drive around-but who have not purchased the required minimum of four tickets for the SAP United States Grand Prix, round 16 of 17 in this year's FIA Formula One World Championship-the ticket office will be open all day on August 18 to assist with your reserved seat needs. Those renewal and new customers who have purchased at least four reserved seat tickets to the SAP United States Grand Prix will be mailed a ticket in late July/early August for the drive around. This ticket must be presented on August 18 before taking the lap of the F1 road circuit. To purchase your reserved seat tickets, call 800-822-Indy or order online at imstix.com. Additional information is also available from your national car club representative. END
