Rob,
Now that I've gotten used to it, I really like the new format. Thanks for all your work.

Thinking of Cookie Monster and laughing out loud underneath a Ferrari.... Hmmm, I think you've been affected by fumes Bret, time to take a break.

(I just knew this would happen when I mentioned that cookie thing)

Ed: The cookie that remembered your password in the old site may have been disabled or eliminated altogether with this new one. This is on your end. I don't know how to activate them, I just know they are there.

I've figured out how to move the fields around in the Search Page, but I'll have to do it this weekend.

The owner of the message board company thought functionality to limit the width of pictures was a good idea. That may be in future update.

Rob -

doesn't even need to be at the top, just so that you don't have to verticle scroll to get the the button that says "perform search"

As per the AOL issuse, I think the new format is requesting info on browser type, when it finds that missing or unknown (AOL and several other integrated browsers have this) it strips away alot of the functionality (like the + next to the folders in new msgs) as I mentioned previously....

In AOL the site has a completely different look and layout than in Internet Explorer. I'm sure the people looking at the site in AOL hate it. AOL was the one I used until yesterday. Now it's so much better. I finally see the improvements. Thanks Rob.

Rob, Thanks for hearing my problem and trying to straighten it out. This pic problem really is a pain to scroll on each and every post where a pic is involved. I enjoy the open forum of F.C. and its members. I also think you are doing what is best for the site and there are some hang ups here and there. As I said once before you can't be everything to everybody but thanks again for trying. BRGDS, Magoo

Oh, this is so fun.

1) I really don't take offense from any comments. I know everything isn't perfect and I'll fix the things I have control over. We now know that the horizontal scroll only comes up when pictures are posted that exceed the size of the screen (more common with the 800 by 600 resolutions users). I only have control over the file size, not the height and width limitations like I need to. I will post the suggestion of this feature to the company and will let you know the response. Until then, users shouldn't post pictures more than 300 pixels wide. As an example, the banner ads are 200 pixels wide. I'm use to Magoo now and appreciate his straight forward feedback. Am I going to argue with FerrariChat.com's #1 poster? ;)

2) That's a great idea about rearanging the search page to put the more common used functionality at top. Thanks for the suggestion Ben. I don't know how long it would take or if it's even possible yet, but I'll find out.

3) Ernie, the live chat room is on the priority list, just hope for Sprint stock to recover a little.

Exactly Bobd, Rob has done a great job as we all know. I didn't start the "I hate this webpage layout" I just followed up on it because I had the same problem as the previous comment. I would not have used the word hate because if you read the previous comments I praised Rob for what he had done. There is a problem as far as I'm concernd with the format. I think something is wrong if some of us are having to horiz. scroll all pic posts and threads where the pics are posted. If smaller pics are needed to prevent the problem then it would be appreciated if that could be done. Also the 2 inch name area seems to take up a lot of space on the screen and would work better maybe above the thread, or made smaller. If that would help then maybe that could be done. If it can't be corrected then say so. If it can thanks for correcting it. This is the reason and the only reason I asked the questions on the previous threads. As far as your comments you were incorrect about me saying or connecting me with the "I hate the webpage layout." Otherwise no offense taken. Magoo

OK Rob,

I'm getting used to the new format now, it's growing on me...I like that the main page fits all on one screen, no scrolling necessary. Any chance we can get the search page to fit without having to scroll down to get to the search command at the bottom? Maybe I'm just lazy, but those features that are most used (by most users), should be the easiest to access.

Rob, The 2 inches of space used to put our names on the side of the page, which was above on the old format, doesn't that take up a large amount of the screen so when pics are posted it goes out of the screen scope?

Also on "Nice F50 Pics" you have to horiz. scroll on the entire page not only the pics. So it appears that where ever there are pics you have to scroll on each and every thread and pics. This isn't right is it? Never had the problem before.

The horizontal scroll should only come up on threads that people have posted pictures. I can't limit the picture height and width, only the file size. If everyone posted smaller sized pictures, then they would fit. At 1024 by 800 resolution I've only seen a couple of threads that had the horizontal scroll. This message doesn't on mine, but the one with the repainted air boxes does.

Let me know if you get the horizontal scroll on a message without any pictures posted.

The new format is ok, but I was more comfortable with the old one.
the big thing I do not care for is that i cannot get the whole message on my screen. I must move the bar at the bottom side to side in order to read everything. Anything I can do about this?

Haw, cay-rap!!! I guess the previous version will go back up, huh? Okay, well, I liked both formats. This is a very good format that Rob has spent many hours on. Many other boards that I belong to (technical, non car related) use this format and it does take getting used to. But then again I can see the point of other members as well. Either way, I'm sitting on the fence on this one and I can jump sides. Farewell, new format...at least for now..hahaha

Ok, next weekend I'm changing it back to the frames format. I appologize to the 800 by 600 resolution users because they couldn't see everything before and also the 100 people that lost their id's because of the crappy database the previous version had and no one will know their post count and all password resets will have to manually go through me again and to post images you have to know the special code, but you can't show people online, because then it expects you to give the picture, so you have to type something like \ image {pic}, but don't put the spaces in there and there's no automatic archiving so you have to scroll a mile down to even post a new thread. ;)

I can have fun too and in closing... the board isn't changing for a long long time, so please get use to this format so when I change it again in a few years you'll have something to complain about. Don't worry, I realize I can't please 1,000 users.

Sorry for the confusion, if I use IE6 the "+" is there, if you strip the browser ID or for a customized browser it's not, guess I'll have to be assilimlated. Hadn't seen the "+" before now, but now that I see it...it's much better.

I'm not too keen on the new design, even after the speed up/archiving. I'd like to see the new messages search display JUST the threads with new messages, not just the areas which have new discussions. Does that make sense? Maybe it just takes me more time to get adjusted to the change, but in the meantime I'm with Danny West...

-Ben

P.S. Also had we know that a change was coming, and could have gotten a feel for the change (beta test it) before it was placed onto us (the board users) it might have gone over better/smoother.

P.P.S. Of course it's not my board, it's Rob's, and he can do whatever he wants, I like others am just glad to be a part of it, as well happy and thankful that it is here.

Seems to be much faster for me as well now!?! As I said before, change is never easy, but ultimately good for all.

I kind of like Bob's idea of having the posts go from top to bottom (first post at the top) and then working your way down. Kind of like the way you read most anything.

Otherwise, like others, I'm just thankful to have found f.chat!!

Ok, first thing first, the first few days the new board was up it was very very slow. Now that the automatic archiving is working, it should only be a hair slower than the previous board (because of the additional info displayed and graphics).

Second thing second, Last day, last hour, message since last login, and whatever parms you want are still available. They are just now located under "Search".

Let me know if other questions or comments.

Thanks for the feedback.

To me, this new board layout is a HUGE improvement especially after Rob so diligently worked-out the initial bugs. There are still improvements that can be made but to say that this is worse than before is like not accepting a new Ferrari model which is always a better car.

The new format is ok for reading discussions, but I really miss the "Last Day" or "Last Week" options. Specially when it listed all topics in a single page with the associated new entries right below them. Besides that, I think Rob is still making a great job with this site!

i never noticed any speed problems, but i'm on a T1 at work, and a cable modem at home, so....

i'd guess you guys were having internet weather problems. you might want to download Ping Plotter here: http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10101-101-6581432.html?tag=dlntl . you can put in "www.ferrarichat.com" and it'll show you where you're having problems getting from your computer to point Z.

right now, i show that the point at which rob's provider (netserve?) peers with alternet is far from a quick hop.

as for the layout, i'm a big fan. the functionality here is much better than previously, and i'm very happy with the upgrade. we can do more quicker. i think post volume will increase as well, which is almost always a good thing.

my two pennies.

doody.

My load-speed is working fine today. I had problems last week. I guess its not the site causing this problem.

Or maybe it was peak time problem with my ISP provider?

This is much better, I only thing I noticed is the spell check can't spell.

I have not noticed any load-speed problems and I am using a 56K modem.

I agree that the load times jumped. On a modem it's taking way longer than previosly.

It does take a few times to get used to it. I'm not used to it yet though. But HEY, Ferrarichat is Ferrarichat, I'm just glad to be using it! :-)

Initially I didn't like it at all, I guess I'm not a big fan of change. Little by little I warmed up to it now. Now I think I like it more. There is a lot more info about the posts apparent as soon as you sign on which is kind of cool. The other one had a more laid back look to it, this has a little more formal stance. I think it just takes some getting used to. Here's an analogy. When Nintendo came out it was the hottest, the graphics were amazing, etc. Looking back at it, it's still amazing, but if you actually go back and play it you realize how unsophisticated it really is (albeit that it's still fun).

The new page takes twice as long (maybe 3x )... and my computer is only 4 years old. Maybe its my modem speed? Anyone else notice this?

I use to read every post. Now I only read a few a day. Takes to much time from my work day to wait for big page to keep re-loading. ( is there any way to just look at- last 3-days post, instead of all ?

Also since I do a lot of reading on the computer for work... I use to like the old site. Style of writing was very casual and easy on the eyes. Now I have just another Windows Microsoft Work looking formate that I stare at all day. (no big deal) but not as much FUN! or relaxation factor.

I think you're the only one so far, although Peter at first didn't like the sudden change, I think he's now warmed up to it.

Most sites are moving away from frames, plus, the site now looks ok no matter what your resolution or monitor size is.

Now that you've come out, are there others?

Any specifics besides the panels(frames)?

The new WEB page layout is not as comfortable as the previous layout. I liked the panels.

I would like to know how you guys feel about it.
