Art-you are right. Tire= $299. 360 spyder= a lot more. I was just trying to be penny wise & pound foolish. Yes, theoretically possible to recoup costs from NY state, but time and hassle factor were designed to discourage these claims. I don't know about warranty-they were OE Pirelli P Zeros on the Spyder; I will look at the warranty book. Whats the best way to repair abraded/scratched rims? |

If under warranty, tires are often "road hazard" warranteed for just such an occasion. If so, simply drive it to the place they were gotten and give it an icepick job- after getting the ok from the manager. It pays to know a tire guy! |

Shouldn't a good tire house be able to give your rim a "spin" and see if it is kamisquatzi(wheel out of balance)? |

There is a good chance that a belt is damaged, giving a thump noise then possibly a vibration. Always replace, try to get repaid by the local DOT, IMHO. |

Solly: tires are how much? Your car is worth how much? This is saving a few hundreds which may cost you thousands, or tens of thousands. Does your insurance cover track days? If not, I would surely change the tire. On the Z rated tires they won't even fit a puncture, let alone the damage you describe. Art |

Its probably not going to blow out under normal street driving, but if you are going to track the car its probably a good idea to change it. Its actually a good idea to change it anyway for peace of mind. If the tire blew out under street driving, theres a chance something bad might happen. Was it the dino or 360? |

In a lot of cases the State will pay for your tire if it is a pothole in the driving part of a roadway. My son hit a huge one and ruined two rims on his Beretta GTU and they paid for them. |

Hit a well-camouflaged pothole last night, heard a loud thump, but everything seemed ok in the dark. This AM noticed abraded area on rear tire, with definite chunk of rubber missing from the sidewall, maybe 2 mm in depth, 4 inches long, 2 inches high. Rim also scratched but no damage to lip, no damage to seal area of either rim or tire. no steel or ply visible-the abrasion did not go through the rubber. Should I replace tire on the off chance that rubber was lost from a crucial area? Tires have 1600 miles on them and are in near-new condition. My concern is a track day at Pocono in 2 weeks, ansd wouldn't want a blowout at speed. Any opinions? Are rims generally easily repairable? If I leave it alone will tire/rim be out of balance or unbalanceable?
