I am on both and I think both are good in different ways. The Chat is definitely less "intrusive" - being that if you are busy (like I had been), you just don't come here. With the List the emails pop in every minute until you unsubscribe.

I do have to say that I don't open/read 98% of the List emails because there is simply too much junk. And I am good with "shift-click-delete".

One thing I want to add is that whenever I have a computer related question (absolutely NFC), instead of calling my outsource people, I just send the List the question and I will get answers and help almost instantly, round the clock. So there are certainly nice and helpful people on the List also.

I won't defend the list here, since if any of you has a problem with it, or with particular people who post on it, that's your entitlement. I do think that complaints about it would be better served by addressing them on that site, though, unless you feel that it is beyond help. i joined both sites at around the same time, and enjoy both. There does seem to be less of a club here, but think a lot of the sniping on the "other" forum is good natured and there is a considerable depth of knowledge among participants who seem willing to share. It would be interesting to see what the demographic/car differences really are. I do not find the "list" to be hostile to other marques; in fact there seems to be a fairly well-rounded constituency of owners/enthusiasts of various cars. This format is clearly easier to use, but hey, alot of it really depends on us, and what we are willing to contribute (apart from Rob's willingness to devote some much to this process, for which i thank him).

If you want, I can delete it and then you can re-register and I'll put your same stats back up, someone may have this username though. Please e-mail me [email protected]

Out of 70 or so emails per day I found myself deleting at least 90% especially anything that said ClyDe and his replies. Just a waste of time for whatever glimmer of valuable content you find.

PS Why am I a rookie? And, I liked the old format better.

I pay attention to both lists. Personally, I think the List has a lot of decent info, but email filters are a requirement.

For instance, I dump everything with 308, 328 or Mondial in the subject into a different folder and pay particular interest to it. I also strip out anything with NFC or OT to a OT folder that I sometimes look at, and I have a clYde filter in place.

This really strips most of the noise out of the list for me, and makes it a useful resource. Lots of good people in both communities.

It's odd, though, that this site is somehow less intimidating to ask questions on. I would have never asked the "GT4 or wait" question on Flist.

BTW: I decided to wait. Thanks to everyone who responded.

I get the digest version of the list and I very seldom post anything. I did find FerrariChat from the list and have learned a few things from both. When the "list" has Ferrari Content I really like it, but that is not that often, but I can always just delete or not read the stuff that bothers me. I think there are many knowledgeable people on both FerrariList and FerrariChat and most people that own a Ferrari or plan to own one could find valuable information on both. The format of FerrariChat is much more user friendly, but I also am very busy and it is nice to get an email telling me what the topics of discussion have been.

Two things to say..........

1. originally posted by Vikenb: I know what Tifoso or Tifosi is but this says Tofosi. Is that mispelled?

Yes, and so is your version of misspelled. :-)

AND
2. A lawyer for an e-mail? Whew!

I unsubscribed last week. Maybe a few serious car guys on there but the rest? No comment. No clue either. Alot of VERY opinionated and uninformed people who have hatred towards other marques and would probably disdain a Bugatti Royale. Decent people here and on the Porsche list.

Has anyone ever found out about FerrariChat.com from the FerrariList?

I know I have other message boards advertise their site on here now and then. I think it says a lot when in the history of this board and 30k messages, I have yet to delete one. If something got out of hand we would have to, but so far the WTC post is about as bad as it gets and that had nothing to do with Ferrari.

I like Ferrarichat, the people, and the content. The "list" is okay for reading the interesting posts. It does get personal there sometimes, and the lamborghini list as well. Seems like there are listers unsubscribing en masse on both lists for personal attacks and flame wars. I lurk on those lists, read the good stuff and delete the rest, which is usually 95% of the posts anyhow. I know that when I do get my Ferrari, I'll probably lurk on the lists, still......HAHAHAHA the spell check is funy...doh!

Wow Kelly, and I didn't even give you a free shirt. Thanks for the compliments. I've browsed FerrariList myself, I've actually registered for the list a few different times, but never got put on it. I guess they knew who I was. My car is actually on there in the showroom. Besides expensivecar.com, there weren't any other major Ferrari message boards a year ago. I've noticed a few trying to get started and I wish them the best of luck. We're all one in the sense we're part of the Ferrari community. I'm not sure our board could handle 100k users, so I'll stick with what we got and that's an overall diverse group of great people with something in common. FerrariChat.com will be around for the rest of my life and maybe my son or daughter will take it over from there. I have the passion, the time, and resources to make this the best I can, but the real value comes from the helpful and knowledgeable users... you.

Hi,
I am on both 'lists'. Each has its own character and uses. Both have some individual characters, both have some opinionated people. I could chose to take issue with some of the posts on both facilities. Instead I look, listen and use what I need or want, ignoring the rest. And of course add to both according to my abilities.
FerrariList does indeed have a low signal to noise ratio at times, but filters take care of most of it. FerrariChat has its own noise but it is less obvious due to the format.
If we all think and behave the same way, life would indeed be boring. Now of course we ALL DO LOVE OUR FERRARI's but that's different :-)

ferrarilist is a good idea, but not a very good implementation. i presume it's a holdover from the late 80's and early 90's. i get the impression the user base is quite a bit older and set in their ways (no offense intended).

i subscribed for about two weeks. during my tenure i actually deigned to post a question about "hey, why so many off-topic posts - how about a web-based chat instead of email so it's easy to filter all the OT stuff". i was politely flamed to a cinder :-)

there genuinely seem to be some useful people there, and i know there's some overlap with here, but it's a shame they won't consider joining up here where the information can be managed intelligently instead of in email messages.

doody.

Wouldnt the singular be tifoso? I was just thinking this because the pural for bastard is bastardi and the singular is bastardo. The only reason i know this is because when i went to italy we drove all over the country visiting relatives and seeing the sights. Needless to say i got pretty board driving for all that time (even though the country is alot smaller than it looks on a map) so i was looking through an italian american dictionary.

I was signed up for ferrarilist for a very short time-it is bad. Comparing it to a bunch of schoolgirls is being generous.

When I first signed up there was an issue about chevy/ford powered ferraris. People (vast majority anyway) were being real A**holes about it. I still recall that Ric Rainbolt put out an e-mail basically saying whoever was doing it was doing so because they were poor and suggested they take up a collection. There was more than one comment that it should either be fixed right or not at all. But it wasn't presented as suggestions, it was more like it was a command. There were also numerous "you're stupid" responses.

Oddly enough, when I first visited this site that was topic of dicussion too. It was interesting to see the difference between how the members reacted. While not everyone here likes the idea or thinks its still a Ferrari, they were still respectful when expressing that opinion and certainly didn't get into the personal attacks like on ferrarilist.

Viken,
Tifosi are the fans that follow the Ferrari F1 team. Remeber when Mike won Monza. the big Ferrari shield that streached across the track. Well, that's a lot of Tifosi. Since I am 6-3 and 290, and my ingnorance at the time of me choosing the named. I took the name of Tofosi or some times Tofosi1. Hence one big fat Ferrari fan. HAHA

But I do believe that Tofosi is the singular of Tifosi.

I've see it both ways in Mags etc.

And Bret thank you, I'm glad to see I'm not alone. Hey just think, if we every let Ed Gault teare loose on the list. He'd set them straight. Probably kick some but to. Huh Ed.

Well I wish them luck on thier little Gum ball rally where you really fined out WHO doesnot own a Ferrari.

3/4 of the time the Ferrarilist reminds me of a bunch of school girls gossiping around the lunch table before English class. As you can tell I have a couple issues with that thing too.

I find it amusing (and f_ckin annoying at times) how everyone thinks they have some God given right to get in your business just cause you own a Ferrari. Most people know sh_t about Ferraris, yet they act like they know Enzo Ferrari himself. They arbitrarily talk to you to claim HP numbers, costs, other cars that can beat it, bullshit like that. I don't understand why everyone can't mind their own f_ckin business and needs to be part of yours cause you own a Ferrari. This is why I never really got into the Ferrari list, everything I could possibly want online is right here (well almost everything, Rob we still need more of those naked girls on Fcars).

I declare myself of the LIST, the Ferrari list that is.

I have had enough of 2-300 BS e-mails a day.

The reason for this. ROB LAY is the man. Ferrari chat always has the best info and everyone has fun. And may I add that no one has a head here that you need and air craft hangar to pass through.

Yesterday, an idiot posted on the list that my car was SLOW!!!! and that the previous owner's kids had put the car through the ringer, before it was delivered to me. Well, the previous owner is a friend and is taken the e-mail to his lawyer. I have never insulted anyone else's car. But, in the south it's a past time.

I'm here for good, ONLY, unless yawl throw me out.

Please beware of dealling with anyone in the New Orleans area. Eventhough you have a Master mechanic certification, doesn't mean you know how to work on Ferrari's. It's call attention to detail.

Ferrarichat and Nick Forza Ferrari, a great team to help you in the ownership of the worlds greatest cars.

My 2 cents. Thanks for letting me blow off. I feel better now. HAHA
