i have bought 6 F cars through Algar in the last 4+ years. Their parts department is one of the best among the authorized dealers, owing in part to Gartwaithe's involvement, with Chinetti, in the importation of ferraris in the very early '70's. The guy that runs their parts dep't has good connections at the factory, and i was surprised to find that they had, on the shelf, alot of NOS parts for my '83 boxer. As to service, Tony is a very good mechanic, and has quickly gotten to the bottom of some of the more quirky problems involving my cars. Mark Cedrone is a sweetheart, and is very good on follow-up, particularly compared to some of my experiences with other F dealers. I continue to use them for anything major even though i live in westchester ny, and they are 2 1/2 hrs away. When my 550 broke down on a forza mille ralley, they retrieved the car within 24 hrs from a garage near Lake Champlain, didn't charge me anything for the pickup or service, and have stood behind every car, even though many of them did not come with any "warranty", as such. |

Just wondered if any one here uses Algar? and if you do how do they compare to other authorized Ferrari service centers. I have been a Ferrari of Washington customer for nearly five years and most of the time they do good work. But some of you may remember my post a few months back about their high prices for labor and parts. I recently needed new headers and FOW's price was nearly 40% higher than Algar. I decided against the headers and purchased a complete Tubi GT3 Challenge spec exhaust system with headers. FOW wanted $7300 for the system but I got it from John Tirrel at Ferrari Independant Service (MASS) for $5000. FOW quoted me nearly 20 hours to install the system and John told me to check around that it shouldn't take more than 10 hours at the most. Mark Cedrone at Algar quoted me 8-9 hours at the most, less than half what FOW quoted. I was also impressed with Algar's service department and parts department. They always return phone calls within one hour and even though I was price shopping for the exhaust install, Mark took well over 30 minutes explaining to me the details of installing the exhaust (eventhough I was not a ALgar customer and I might go somewhere else). If all goes well at Algar I may use them on a regular basis. Thanks for any input! Jon K. |
