Aluminum doesn't "rust" per se, but it corrodes which is the same thing. I had to replace my passenger side door seal plate last year because of corrosion and am now having my rear grill treated and repainted for the same type of corrosion. The corrosion looks like a small blob of paint like you would see on a bad paint job. But if you scrap it a little the blob turns to a fine white powder. On my rear grill the corrosion was coming from underneath where one of the fasteners that hold the grill on is located. |

The what what? Where is that? If it is aluminum, how can it rust?

Frank I've seen this before on several cars. I don't think it's uncommon. Just have it treated and painted. |

My body man said that he would dip it in acid to remove the old paint and corrosion before repainting it. |

Frank: The grill is aluminum and if the surface isn't properly treated when painted, it corrodes. There is a special type of acid that must be put on it befoe primer or you'll get the corrosion. I'd talk to an airplane painter before painting it and he can probably give you the name of the acid they use when painting the plane. |

Have any of you guys noticed any corrosion on the rear deck grill on your 348 ? I found some on my Spider the other day while waxing it. It looked like a blob of paint but was the corrosion pushing the paint up from below just above the fasteners that how the grill on . I have the grill at my body man now to treat and repaint. |
