I read the article in next month's C&D and it said the SL55 AMG had 415hp and 513 (?) ft/lbs of torque.

boy, I hope the public doesn't equate button shifting on an auto to the f1/smg manual on the ferrari and bmw.

on the sl55 front, while it sounds like a very nice car I just have a hard time getting past the 4400lb weight. I mean that's heavier than most SUVs!

the SL55 transmission will have steering wheel controls and apparently will be as close to a manual as they've shipped before. there is apparently a mode where it will only automatically shift the gear at redline or if the car is about to stall out in too high a gear.

Its probably more of a driver's car than the SL55 AMG. The SL is automatic, how much of a drivers car could it be? From what i saw it seemed to be a steal. The interior looked well sorted out and easy to use. Also check out Maserati's web page, (www.maseratiusa.com) it is very informative and also has a cool page where you can customize the car color, top color, brake caliper color and interior and see what it would look like.

I just got back from Miller... Bailey took me out in the Maserati- WHAT A CAR!!! Its defintetly a steal for 90k. Considering what it will be used for- probably a country club car- it is perfect. It has style, comfort, power and brought strength. This car pulls- much to my surprise. It is a bit chunky at about 3800 (possibly 3500) but the approx. 350 horses makes up for it. I highly recommend it. Call Mr. Vanneck!

I have bought from Nick and found him to be honest. I would buy from him again.

Love to meet you guys, but this week is bad for me-lots of travel. Will be back after the 25th. We could meet for brunch/lunch on a weekend somewhere in mid-Westchester.

My cell # is (914) 450-5164. Office in White Plains, home in Pound Ridge.

I support the statement about Algar. I bought my TR from them and was impressed with the sale and the service even after the sale. Their parts operation is pretty complete also. When looking for an exotic, beware of some of the fringe players trying to hawk a deal that makes them quick dollars. I have heard of horror stories about discoveries made after a purchase from a less than reputable dealer.

Kenny, you shouldnt have left early, that murcilago was amazing. I think the bently was a red label. Bailey was a very good dealer, he really knew his stuff about all cars, not just maseratis.

Warner is a great guy. Seems that the problems only regard questions about finding cars. From everyone who I have spoken to who have bought their cars from their, are highly satisified.

Interesting. I live near Miller, and have been in to visit Warner numerous times looking for a 360. He has always been very nice, but we never got to the deal stage. Just this morning left him a message that I am interested in a 355 he has.

These previous posts have now given me second thoughts, but that is one of the good things about this website; that we try to steer each other away from potential problems. Thanks.

Mr. Doody,

I like to think of the Volvo S40- being 2700 pounds- as a 2.7 RS :-)

<<<Hey Doody, are you EVER going to find a car??!!>>>

y'know, i'm not so sure. i'm quite disheartened. i have never ever had such a problem spending this kind of money before. in theory, they should be lining up to take my wire transfer, but it's been a weird and wacky process.

i've used a broker (and talked to a few others as well). i've looked myself. and i've used a dealer. no dice.

i've had two dead-serious deals fall through. each after WEEKS of time invested.

in the first instance it was a private seller who was a really nice guy, but wasn't willing to do the work needed to sell a ferrari (produce records, answer lots of questions, email pictures, etc.). i knew fairly quickly that the guy was going to be an issue, but i really wanted that car. so i extended that a lot longer than i knew i should have (ever the optimist!).

the second deal was this inter-dealer mess with Miller. i hope they choke on it :-)

i'm pursuing a third deal now, but low-key, and the working assumption is that it'll fall through for various rational reasons.

i'm still holding out hope, but it's been over four months of searching now. i feel like i'm insanely well educated about the market and about the dealers and the sellers. but the education has been equal parts disheartening and interesting.

they're just cars. there's a lot of irrational people out there. if something doesn't pop by the end of February i'm going to "suffer" through the summer in my 996 C2 Cab (correct, i don't get much sympathy) and maybe try again at the end of the year - if my SL55 list spot doesn't pop before then.

doody.

KENNYH: yeah, i had a really hard time deciding between the 996TT and a new Volvo instead ;)

KENNYH: no, i'd rather not go into details as to what happened. there were two dealers involved, and i will never know what specifically transpired between them (i'm still working with the other dealer though).

TEACHDNA: they never responded to my emails at all.

I've had mixed experiences with Miller. The Ferrari sales guy was reasonable enough although I was disappointed with the shape the car was in. I had flown in for the day to look at a particular car and it was pretty messy with lots of small things not working that would have been easy to fix. I was astonished by the lack of detail for what is a very high end dealer.

In responding to some of their advertisements by Email, they never got back to me or got back to me after 3 weeks.

I think they're about average and based upon my experiences with them, I can't really give them high recommendations.

Hey Doody, are you EVER going to find a car??!!

fwiw, i was recently thoroughly jerked around by miller. all sorts of juvenile inter-dealer silliness that wasted a few weeks of my time.

i imagine many folks have had fine experiences there (they've been around for a while), but i won't be working with them in the future.

TimN88 went up to Greenwhich yesterday to visit Miller... Some great cars in stock- 355's, 550's, 456's (the usual). I got my first look at the new Maserati. Pictures do not do this car justice. The Maserati Coordinator their- F. Bailey Vanneck could have possibly have been the nicest dealer I have ever met in my life. Most dealers dont give kids the time of day- but Mr. Vanneck was extremely different. A passion for cars is rare for a dealer, but he was incredible. Due to the fact that it was a Saturday, and the dealership was busy as hell, he wasnt able to spend more then an hour talking to us, but he told us to come back Tuesday- he is going to take us out in the Maserati! If any of you guys know Warner- the normal Ferrari dealer- great guy also

Customers cars at the dealer:

Mercedes CL55 AMG
Porsche 993 Turbo
Bentley Continental R (?)
Mercedes G500
Lamborghini Murcielago
Ferrari 360 Spyder

I highly recommend you guys considering the new Merc SL to take a second look at the Maserati. Also- please feel free to call Mr. Vanneck.
