As far as I know, French was derived from Latin, as one of the 12 Romance Languages(don't ask about all of them because I can't remember them all). From what I gather, French has also been influenced by Germanic languages. I am surprised that the French will dismiss this great and very obvious fact. |

Not to be a hard nose, but French is classified as "Germanic" not Latin. Anyone who is French (myself included) would take issue with being classifed with any Latin cultural roots. But, hey, we French are snobby! |
