If that were the case, I would promise them Ferrari after they graduated college with honors.. Kids are more interested in something cool to drive to school then future wedding plans..(here and now) I think it would work to my favor with the car.. My wife and I paid for our own wedding and did it our way..So they can do the same.. |

cost wise you are right but....i would still like them to go to my (or my wife's )alma mater, so won't be able to cut that deal. but have thought about proposing the house downpayment vs the big wedding deal (over my wife's objections). i don't think the car will necessarily be worth enough to them to foregoe either the college of their choice or the big wedding.... now a more interesting direction to take the thread towards: would you give/help get/condone (whatever), a ferrari to one of your kids as a college car? my own 2cts on that is 'no' for the first 2-3 years till the grades are in, and then 'yes' for senior year. flame up everybody |

I have two girls. One is 5 and the other is 3.. What I plan to do is make a deal with them..If they can go though their classes (5th grade -high school) with honors the whole way though and get a scholarship where I pay next to nothing for school, I will get them any car that they want. You got to figure that 2 new car notes will be much cheaper than paying for college.... |

congrats bob. i have 3 kids but am about 10 years from the first one going to college, so some time to prepare for the blow. the bigger problem is that in 2014 they will all be in college at the same time ! and by that time it will cost about 30k/month - oh the horror! then worse than that, 2 of them are girls and after college i'll have to pay for grandiose weddings that my wife will insist on - more horror! i better go out for a drive while i still can...... |

I paid my own way through a private high school and college and I plan to have my kids participate in their education costs as well. Kids take education more seriously when they have to pay for it. |

As tempting as it seems IF (he never would) my dad said i could either go to college this fall or have an F355, i'd go with college. Ferraris arent the only thing in life, not even close. Bruce, dont feel too bad, i have 3 older sisters that my dad had to/is still putting through college and im up soon. |

One down one to go. My older son graduated with honors from DePaul in Chicago on Sunday. Degree in computer graphics and animation development. At least the cost of a nice 355 didnt go to waste, now he needs to make use of it by going to work. I now have four years to recover before my little guy goes to college. |
