The swerve technique is good, the finger, well.. that might cause some brutal incident with you and your car, especially a Ferrari which is easily identifiable if you left it unattended. Sometimes I feel I should've put windshield squirters below my rear bumper filled with aircraft paint remover to punish the tailgaters. When I had my Porsche I turned the headlight squirters towards the front and squirt those who cut in front of me and I loved it. |

Straight pipe your car, make it as loud as possible, people will have no choice but to stay away in fear of becoming hard of hearing...works for bikers, why not ferrari owners |

One method I was told and I have tried it and it does seem to work is: The swerve technique - you know, the one where you all of a sudden swerve as if you are avoiding to run over something. When you do this people either back off since they think you were trying to avoid something or they back of because they think you are un-predictable, either reason seems to work some of the time :-) |

...or down shift without using the brake and that will really scare them, but also might put them in your back seat, oh, I don't have a back seat. |

For tailgaters, don't stomp on your brake, just slide your left foot over and press the brake pedal enough to make the brake lights come on. At the same time, floor it. You pull away fast while the idiot behind you has them locked up. |

I leave a lot of room in front, and as I stop, once I've got what's ahead of me sorted, I drift one eye to the rearview mirror.... (and prepare to dive for the ditch if someone is coming at me too fast to stop.) Saved me once so far. I'll always gawk and honk and wave at other fun cars (of any sort, F50 or Morgan) but only if safe to do so of course :P) Best! Ben. |

I usually do the "trying not to look" thing out of courtesy to the driver. When I come across a Ferrari or Lambo, I don't want to put the driver off by gawking at the car so I try to be discrete about it. If I'm in the NSX, I'll try to wave or give a thumbs up, but I find that this never gets a positive reaction (or any at all really) from Ferrari and Lambo drivers. So if any of you NY/NJ guys see a nut in a silver NSX waving, at least give a nod |

Great idea Patrick. I usually do nothing when someone is tailgating. But occasionally, I'm known to loose patience and hit the break really hard for a very short amount of time. It works too but obviously, this is quite stupid since the driver behind may be sleeping. I'll try the washer next time ACW |

I don't know what to do to make people pay attention to what is in front of them but I do know how to stop tailgaters... I don't do this in the Vette unless it is completely filthy and will be getting a bath soon. Just clean your windshield (i.e. spray the windshield wiper fluid). It will get all over their windows and almost always makes them back off. Patrick |

Let's list top things that tick us off when driving. I'll start... 1) You have to merge on an onramp or lane ending and someone thinks it's a game to make sure you don't get in by slowing down and speeding up when you're being nice and don't have a choice but to merge (now there are times I do this myself, see #2). 2) When there's lane ending signs or a wreck that you can see a mile away and although the two through lanes are backed up, people think they have the blessed right to skip the jam and go to the very front before they merge. 3) Tailgaters! 4) Not using turn signals. 5) Driving bad while on the phone. 6) SUV's and other large vehicles that are so big that while they're looking at where they're turning, they have moved half way into the other lane in order to make the turn. 7) Access roads at an off ramp where people don't yield, although there are 2 big signs that say to yield. 8) The same blessed person as #2 also makes another lane of the shoulder while traffic is backed up. |

LOL - The Offspring - my favorite band I swore that they should of written on my racing license "Cannot race while PMSing- may be dangerous to others" The fact that there are women out there who can be suffering from it and may be armed - I behave driving.......yikes!!!!!

On the freeway you leave a cushion space between the car in front of you and a shithead cuts in front, now that furiates me. These type of knucklehead drivers WILL one day wreck real bad to the cars in front of them and I will give no remorse for they deserve it. I happen to live in a city which have one of the worst drivers in the nation... Sacramento.. people can't drive here, it's too easy to get a drivers license here. And for those tailgators to see... a license plate saying "Hit me, I need a new Ferrari" |

A hand gun... eh? Reminds me of an Offspring song, (dont look at the bad words kids). Great song to listen to when your feeling kinda aggressive while driving. Hey man you know I'm really okay The gun in my hand will tell you the same But when I'm in my car Don't give me no crap Cause the slightest thing and I just might snap When I go driving I stay in my lane But getting cut off makes me insane I open the glove box Reach inside I'm gonna wreck this 's ride I guess I got a bad habit And it ain't goin' away Yeah Well they say the road's a dangerous place If you flip me off I'm the danger you'll face You drive on my ass You're foot's on the gas And your next breath is your last Drivers are rude Such attitudes But when I show my piece Complaints cease Something's odd I feel like I'm God You stupid dumbshit goddam I open the glove box Reach inside I'm gonna wreck this 's ride

It seems like bad driving techniques follow certain trends; the latest one i've noticed here in the NE is the "i'll just pull out and make you deal with it syndrome." I mean, why wait for a break in traffic; getting on via access ramps is much easier if you have complete confidence that the other guy (you and me) will be forced to stop; likewise, when pulling out of parking lots into active traffic, just pull out! Its much easier, then, to get somebody to give you a (brake). I'm glad i don't carry a handgun. |

I ride a motorcyle, and the solution for people following you too close is to leave a lot of space in front so you can stop more slowly. Except that in California, that big space in front is quickly taken up by another car almost immediately. So, buy a good insurance that will pay for your car when it is smashed up. Then, buy another car when it happens |

I noticed that when I drove into the office Tuesday......but on the way back I almost flat spotted the tires because of a SUV slamming it's brakes in front of me.........I normally leave a lot of space but I admit my mind was elsewhere (quitting the corporate life).......My next rule is not drive when I am distracted.

I find that when there is a car in front of your Ferrari it goes slow to annoy you. And YES, when they are behind you they are glued to your bumper,. A van almost hit me last weekend.Skid&smoke.There is something people dislike about Ferrari's and their drivers.I also like when they try not to look. You know what I mean. |

Like John, I leave lotsa room in front of me and keep my eye on the rearview mirror. Even if you get hit it will lessen the amount of damage. I witnessed the chain reaction of one car plowing into the rear of another and so forth, twice in six months. I then decided it would be a good idea to leave some room in front of me. The rule of thumb is to leave enough so you can see the contact patch of the car in front of you. I'm sure it's saved me more than once. |

No. I also have someone in my family named Bubba. Of course I'm just missing the wisdom teeth. no excuse for Bubba. True story, the porch is rotted out and when the satellite guy came and knocked on the door, he fell through the porch. As you can tell, the 9 car garage and kart track are a long term work in progress. |

Drive defensively and leave a lot of room around you. Let the tailgaters by. It's amazing what normally sane people would do when they spot a Ferrari on the road. |

I agree with John, most cars give you more room too, except the red necks that give you less room. Hey, I might just be a redneck. I was born and live in Texas, I race cars, only drink Coors light, and my home is mobile, but most of my cars ain't. |

Driving home from work, I often find myself stuck in heavy traffic. As you know, most drivers don't pay attention due to cell phones and make-up.. (Nothing personal Nika). Sometimes I hear the car behind me lock up the breaks to avoid smashing me.. I then ask myself, when I get my Ferrari how will I deal with this.. What do you guys and gal do? Take the long way home? Get off the highway? Do you put on the hazards? I'd love to know.......10-Q |
