A lot of people plan on keeping car forever and invest money in it unwise. Then something comes up causing a sale and now they are buried in the car. I have never paid for 1 extra of anykind in any car. It has a kick ass stereo I reply "take it out".etc.etc. |

308's are over 20 years old. Once you have one and live with it for a while, you find quite a few thing have improved in the last 20 years. Many owners will go for Comfort over Historic Accuracy. The Pure-bloods like yourself represent an even smaller fraction of the 0.013% of men that own Ferraris.

What's up with these folks that always add several thousand dollars worth of easily available accessories to a classic car when they go to sell it? That just adds thousands of dollars to the price of a rare car, thereby reducing the number of potential buyers. Let's say some guy has a 308 for sale. 308s aren't exactly on every street corner. Due to their age these days, they aren't exactly the car of choice for the country club set. But much more likely a car for the knowledgeable, wrench turning enthusiast. So if the market for these cars is very knowledgeable about them, why do sellers always seem to offer their cars for sale AFTER they spend thousands of dollars for new wheels and tires, (which the new owner might not like or want), new paint job, (from a questionable shop of unknown talent), or my favorite, a high dollar stereo CD system that anybody could purchase any day of the week at Wal-Mart! If I am looking for a rare car, the last thing I want to pay for is a bunch of high dollar extras that some goofball added in a pathetic attempt to make the car look better. Most enthusiasts want to build/restore a vehicle to THEIR specs, not pay for junk that somebody else wanted. I've seen some of these adds extolling the virtues of the $1000 tires, $2000 paint job, and $3000 stereo system. Makes me want to offer them about $6000 less than their asking price so that I can buy the CAR cheaper and PASS on the stupid accessories that the seller thinks are so VALUABLE! |
