W hart, i like all the back roads by bedford off of rt 22. I just drive and see where i end up. I usually end up back on 22,in banksville or on king st. There are alot of ferraris around there. I also love 448 and 128. If it werent for those roads i would probably have 2x more tire left. The shoulders on the fronts are worn bare. I wonder what audi is going to think next time i take the car in for servicing. Ive never actually been up to bear mtn just driving for fun. Nor do i go on the taconic for fun, the speeds required to have fun on that road are too high and i like having my license and my life, but it is fun to just drive normally (10 over) and enjoy the scenery. I love how that road gets real twisty far up north and is high up on a hill giving u a great view of all the valleys. What is that road by the bear mtn bridge that is really curvy and has a 500ft cliff on one side? I dont trust that 2ft stone wall enough to have fun on that one. Im trying to think where 448 ends, does it end in the town of sleepy hollow or does it end at the tarrytown lakes or does it keep going?

Has anyone used a jammer on any of these roads? I have a detector, but with the instant on there is no warning. I'm curious if a jammer would work.

We seem to overlap in roads we take. It would be nice to put the Daytona next to the Barchetta some day

Tim N: I originate in westchester. Take the saw mill or 448/100 to get on the taconic. or 100 north to 22, then pickup 124 thru cross river/ bedford. or 100 to 6 up along bear mtn. or 301 between cold spring and carmel. or further north, going toward limerock, thru kent, along 7 and (55) (i believe). There are some amazing county roads between westchester and limerock.
Also, 17 going west up to watkins glen. nearer to home, there are a bunch of roads behind west point, where the artillery ranges, etc. are. how about you?

The road to Hana is a piece of cake. Try driving the other direction around Maui. Single lane roads and sheer cliffs and few passing lanes. Scared the poop out of me and the Cavalier rental.

The ultimate twisty road!!! The road to Hana,
Maui. Did it in a rental car once, 50 sum miles of the sharpest curves you've ever seen in your life. I dont think ANYBODY has EVER driven that road faster than I did a few years ago. IMPOSSIBLE. Rented an all-wheel drive Toyota car (forgot the model) My wife egged me on, how could I resist? We had rental insurance. Had one of the wheels lifting off the ground on some of the corners, I SWEAR! Flat-out-fast as I could drive for over 50 miles. I dont think there are any straighaways for the whole drive. That car needed some serious new tires after our vacation. I guess it would be a good idea NOT to buy a rental Ferrari from Maui, 'caus you know they have been on the road to Hana!!

The beauracracy is a nightmare but maybe in a few years after things settle down a bit more.

There is a 400 Kilometer long straight in the S of Argentina.

What - no suggestions in the UK?
Here's mine -
The Roman road that runs alongside Hadrians wall: very fast, very spectacular and VERY empty
and it was even built by Italians - what could be more fitting?

1. German Autobahn between Munich and Bodensee
2. Austrian Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse
3. Swiss St. Gotthard's Pass

The stretch of German Autobahn between Munich and Lake Constance (Bodensee), which borders on Bavaria, Austria, and Switzerland is flat out, with some long straights for opening her up, and some nice long gentle bends that are still easily drivable at 220+ km/h, even for novices like me. You'll hit 270 km/h on the straights, and not even be breaking the law!

Driving a rented 360, the only "problem" I had was hitting the rev limiter from time to time when I shifted from 5th to 6th!! :-)

The absolute best mountain road is the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse in Austria. This is a 25-30 mile stretch of toll road constructed just after WWII as a means of employing Austrian citizens displaced after the war. The road is smooth like a race track, and carves up and through some of the most spectacular mountains you'll see in your life. Best of all, since it's a toll road and not used for through traffic, if you hit it at the right time, you'll have it all to yourself. Nobody even around. Just you and your Ferrari. Oh yeah, make sure you keep the windows down so you can hear the noise. Nothing better than hearing the 8,000 revs of Rarri echo through the canyons!!

The Swiss mountain pass of St. Gotthard's is not only beautiful, but has the best curves for speed. There are three ways to get through this pass: (1) The tunnel the burrows beneath (95% of traffic takes this route) (2) The mountain pass highway (3) The old granite-bricked road built in the 1700's. Needless to say, the mountain pass highway is what you want. Since most through traffic takes the tunnel, you'll have the pass all to yourself. But make sure you stop along the old granite-bricked highway for some cool photos.

I'd recommend these three roads to any Ferrari enthusiast. I rented the 360 from a little Bavarian company called Scuderia von Ruschenberg and had the time of my life. They've got something like 16 Ferraris to choose from, and you can save the insurance hassles and expense (and potential damage) of shipping your car over there. I rented a brand new 360 for 2 weeks, and it still cost $2,000 less than if I had shipped my car over there. They even gave me free maps so I could find these three roads. Definitely the way to go.

From Manhattan I usually take 9W up the Hudson until Bear Mountain and back on 9A, 129, 100 and the Saw Mill. What I'm missing is the 208 just North of West Point. This was (last time I looked it was closed) a fantastic curvy road like you find them in the Alps. I would take it two or three times up and down before continuing my trip.
I'm als once or twice a month in Europe, where some of the Autobahn in Germany is still without speedlimits and everybody knows how to drive.

Im with jerry for driving past store windows. Probably any road that is is good shape is a good place to drive your ferrari. Any road in the southwest would probably be good too. One time i was driving from san diego to the grand canyon and there was one road that snaked around the desert with alot of elevation changes. It was fun in a rental v6 mustang so i can imagine what a ferrari would be like. The only problem is that a mistake would leave you in the brush off to the sides of the road and you would probaly have to wet sand all the scratches out. Thats why a track might be THE best place.

thanks for the note Dave! I don't go out there too often, if anything, I'll venture out a bit further out for some spirited drives.

As for LCR goes, its quite funny - think of the place where you grew up, and where you learned to drive. A good friend of mine grew up on LCR, about halfway through, a quarter mile up - that's his mother's place. He's never been on a track before, but he's one of the best drivers I know.

In Northern California: Highway 1 from Tam Valley (near Mill Valley, off of Highway 101) to Stinson Beach and further north. This should only be done early am (say 7am) because of the traffic that comes later. Great drive.

The most fun I had was between Frankfurt and Hanau, a straight line Autobahn that in the evening is not too bad. At 190 MPH your face gets this grin that stays for 3 days!

Over here in Miami I like the ride down to the Keys starting in Coconut Grove through Old Cuttler and end in Homestead. Then take US 1 down the Keys for a nice smooth ride. If you have a friend like I do that this nutz you can also do the ride hard with lots of accelleration and passing on a two lane road. Keeps you awake.

The FOC will have a Rally down into the Keys in April !

Randy,

FYI, recently, Travis County designated Lime Creek road as a "zero tolerance" road--meaning you WILL get a ticket for speeding, etc. if they catch you. There are a lot more sheriff's cars patrolling there lately with instant-on. Apparently, there have been LARGE motorcycle races (20+ crotch rockets at a time) there recently, and several head-on motorcycle fatalities, so they are really clamping down.

The central coast of California is one of the most beautiful places in the world. But if you are in the interior of California (the Central Valley) the Blossom Trail is incredible. This is a 53 mile drive through millions of blooming fruit trees.

I-40 between Knoxville, TN and Ashville, NC is great. Especially, the section going through the Appalacian Mountains. Lots of curves at speed with great views at the top of the mountains. I have divein it 3 times in the last 3 years in my non-Fcar, and it could only get better in one of Enzo's creations.

The Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway from North Georgia up through Virginia. The scenery is beautiful and the curves fun to negotiate at speed. The tunnels through the rocks are a blast too. There are wonderful little mom and pop places to stop and eat and bread and breakfast inns to stay the night, some built in the 18th century.

Tyler, I have to agree with you on highway 14 from Ft. Collins, CO to Walden. When ever I get bored and want to go on a drive I always head up the Poudre Caynon. Lots of tight corners and cows in the middle of the road, but always a nice drive.

-Poudre Cayon
-Big Thompson Cayon and Trail Ridge Road

Man, Rob, you got something for the Vegas strip, huh? It's cool to cruise on the strip on a Saturday night or even on a Friday night especially during the cooler nights. Bring a video camera and the hot women will be popping out of the sunroofs of their limos. Import cars as well as Mustangs and Camaros will be aching to race you at the lights. Especially going south on Las Vegas Blvd at the Tropicana intersection next to New York, New York. Since it is the "end" of the strip and there is about a quarter mile to the next stoplight, I've seen action there before. You're right though, cruising through there is just like how they depict it in the movies.
